2016 AIS Convention
 - East We Go in 2016

'Rainbow Tour'

It's not too early to be thinking about 2016.  And part of that is the 2016 AIS Convention in Newark, New Jersey.  The AIS website has information about the convention here.  The convention website is already available to learn more, including how to register - here is the registration form.  So save the dates May 23rd-28th, 2016!

Presby Memorial Iris Gardens is one of the hosts and one of the tour gardens.  Did you know they have a newsletter as well as their Facebook page and their website?  All are ways to learn more about what will be happening.  (Note the newsletter link above is to the most recent one.  You can sign up for their newsletter in the lower left-hand corner of their website homepage.)

One of those opportunities that sneaks up on you.  A chance to vote for your favorite tall bearded irises.  Up to 25 from the list of those eligible.  But you must submit your votes by September 1st!  See the complete details here and download the ballot (PDF) listing all the TBs you can vote for.  You can go directly to the ballot.
Logo Contest - Deadline Extended
One of the entries

With the AIS Centennial coming soon (2020), now is time for preparing to celebrate.  One of the first details is selecting a logo.  You may have seen the call for logos in the Irises Bulletin earlier this year.  You can now see the request here.  And note that the deadline has been extended to October 15, 2015

On the AIS Facebook page you can see some of the entries.  That album is here.

In Search of the "Little Ones" - MDB Photos Needed
'Be Little'

Terry Laurin is one of the "Wiki Heroes" responsible for the incredible progress of the Iris Encyclopedia.  To make it even more useful, he needs photos of more irises.  Currently he and the Dwarf Iris Society are making an appeal for photos of MDBs.  You can learn more about their request (and see some great photos of MDBs) here.  As part of this, a list of the MDB cultivars needing pictures has been created and can be found on the Ontario Iris Society Miniature Dwarf Iris Society Project page.  The list is the PDF labeled Miniature Dwarf Iris Picture Project.pdf.
Fall Regional Meetings
'Alpine Region'

Many of the Regions have a Fall Meeting for Judges Training, business meetings, and iris sales and auctions.  The first ones are in August - actually this next weekend.  You can see all the 2015 Fall Regional Meetings we've located in this table.  If you know of others, please let me know (wrmesser@gmail.com) and I will add them.  (While you can add them yourself, keeping the links in the table working when I edit has been a challenge, to say the least.  So I'll be glad to struggle with it so you don't have to.)

One other meeting in the Fall is the Board of Directors meeting.  This year it is November 6-7 in Omaha, Nebraska.  All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.  You can find more information about the Fall Board Meetings on the AIS Conventions page.
Summer Irises Bulletin On the Way
'Football Hero'

The Summer 2015 Irises Bulletin has been printed and is on its way to your mailbox.  For those of you who are also Emembers, you can see it now.  Just go to the usual Emember website here and use your username and password.  While you are waiting for your printed copy, you can learn more about the contents in this World of Irises blog posting.
A Spuria Jigsaw

A great clump of irises that I saw at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden this year.  I understand it is the Spuria Fontanelle (not sure about the spelling and I have not been able to locate it in the Iris Encyclopedia).  If you know more about it, I would be glad to hear from you.  You can email me at wrmesser@gmail.com.  Thank you in advance.

Here it is as a jigsaw both in the standard difficulty and the harder difficulty.
