Iris Encyclopedia Is Open Again!

The Iris Encyclopedia has been moved to its new server and is better than ever!  While we are still making adjustments, you can now edit as before.  And if you have not begun using the Iris Encyclopedia = the Iris Wiki, now is a great time to try it and to register to add to it.  See it here.
Thanks to Tim Valenzuela and Chris Lindsey the move was accomplished without ever taking it down!

Broken Color Irises
Llama Mama

The World of Irises (the AIS blog) has a great article:  Broken Color Irises with Hybridizer Brad Kasperek at Zebra Iris Gardens. Thank you to Susanne Holland Spicker for the great article and pictures.  Be sure to check the World of Irises frequently for other iris posts by the outstanding lineup of contributors.

Iris Medal Winners Coming Soon
2012 Dykes Medal Winner Florentine Silk

This is the time of year when everyone holds their breath until the Iris Medal Winners are announced.  Okay, maybe not everyone.  But whatever you do to wait and to celebrate when they are named, they should be available in a few months.  And we will be bringing them to you.  Make sure you are signed up for the AIS News & Notes to hear them soon!  In the meantime, the Iris Encyclopedia has all the previous winners.  Check the lists of awards here.  All the previous winners are listed and many winning irises have pictures.  For example, see the Dykes Medal Winners

In Memoriam
Shabaza

George Sutton, the founder of Sutton's Iris Gardens and a prolific hybridizer, died May 29, 2013 at the age of 80.  He registered hundreds of irises including some from most of the iris classes.  Two of his Arilbred irises won the William Mohr Medal, 'Ulalena' in 2010, and 'Shabaza' in 2008.  He and his late wife Margaret were instrumental in creating the Porterville Iris Festival.  Obituaries can be found here and here.  Our condolences to his family.
