New Faces
Every year the airport hires seasonal employees to assist with mowing and maintaining the 1200 acres the airport owns. Included in the 1200 acres is 480 acres of grass which two employees mow continuously during the season, over 10 miles of fence, including 24 gates, and more than 3 acres of landscaped areas. 2014 welcomes 4 seasonal employees to the airport staff. One position is from mid-March through mid-October and mows full time. The three other positions are from April through September and assist with mowing, airfield checks, landscape and building/hangar maintenance, as well as various other tasks around the airport. The seasonal help allows the airport to have an employee on site 7 days a week. If you see a new face on the airport maintenance crew introduce yourself and welcome them to the airport.

Bosch Aviation
Bosch Aviation, a new aircraft maintenance and parts business has recently opened its hangar door at the Arlington Airport. They are located in a state of the art 70' x 75' hangar at 17415 51st AVE NE, Unit B, next door to Bowman Manufacturing. The owners Mark Bosch and Charles Longley have a cumulative 35 years of aircraft maintenance experience. They offer service on a wide variety of aircraft. To include annual inspections, major structural repair, engine maintenance and upgrades, fabric work, STC installations and general aircraft maintenance and improvements.
Mark, the Director of Maintenance has Cessna service center experience and training. Additionally, he has FAR 135 maintenance experience and has worked on most general aviation aircraft including helicopters and cabin class twins. Charles, the General Manager has Cessna service center experience and worked for several FAR 135 aircraft operators in Alaska as a pilot and mechanic. Charles has also attended Continental aircraft engine factory school. Charles stated he has been pleased with the warm welcome they have received in Arlington and that Bosch Aviation is offering monthly specials for the first half of 2014 to introduce their services. Project Updates
Taxiway Alpha Lighting Project:
The work in the safety area of runway 16/34 is now complete (phase 1). Many of the LED signs and a few of the LED taxiway lights have been installed. The contractor will now primarily be working on installing the lights on taxiway A (phase 2). During this period of work various sections of taxiway A will be closed to aircraft at different times including overnight, these sections will be marked with lighted barricades. All areas of the flightline will remain accessible throughout the project; pilots will only need to detour around closed taxiway sections.
J Hangar Restroom :
The J hangar restrooms have been remodeled by the airport maintenance crew. Thank you to hangar tenant Ron Moen and Marysville Taping for donating material and the work to install the walls in the restrooms. Please stop by and take a look at the great work Ron and the maintenance crew completed.
Design Engineering:
The airport recently entered into contracts with the firm WH Pacific to design engineer 2 projects: The Mound Area Taxilane Reconstruction Project and The Rotating Beacon Replacement Project. The taxilane project involves reconstruction of the taxilane serving Wild Blue Aviation and the taxilane serving Glasair. The beacon project involves identifying alternatives to improve the visibility of the beacon whether that involves replacing the existing beacon and/or moving it to a new location. The study will provide up to 3 alternative sites for the beacon and will also look at the potential glare the beacon may cause to surrounding neighborhoods and aircraft.

Congratulations!
Airframe and powerplant mechanic (A&P), Paul Nyenhuis, has been awarded "Mechanic of the Year" by the FAA's regional office. Paul and his wife Shirley own A.I.R. (Aviation Inspection & Repair) on the field. They are one of the airport's oldest tenants having been located at Arlington since 1974. Paul received his A&P license from Western Michigan University and a B.S. degree in aviation engineering technology in 1966. He also earned an Inspection Authorization in the early years of running his business. Please join us in congratulating Paul on an award well deserved! The award will be presented to Paul on either April 2nd or 3rd at the airport office in Putnam Hall. Look for more details on the presentation via email and the airport's facebook page.

MATA
Since moving into their new hangar a year and a half ago, MATA (Mission Aviation Training Academy) has continued to grow, with more students, instructors, and aircraft. Recently the Board of Directors decided it was time to build more classroom space above their existing office area to keep up with the growing number of students and instructors. The expansion constructed during December and January, added four new classrooms, offering multiple instructors uninterrupted teaching areas.
MATA's new Basic Aviation Training Device arrived in early December, and is located in one of the new rooms. This new "simulator" allows students the ability to train and staff to maintain instrument currency in a cheaper but very realistic environment approved by the FAA. MATA is grateful for the donations that came in for both upgrades.
