CREW JUNIORS GOLD GIRLS - Successful Trip to CASL
Crew Juniors Gold U16 Girls

Our U16, U17 and U18 Gold teams headed to Raleigh to compete in the CASL College Showcase.  Glen Tourville explained the benefit to our players..."Each team played three games and each performance allowed for better play and improved team continuity from the previous game. The main goal of participating in the CASL Showcase is to allow our Crew players to showcase their talents in front of the college coaches in attendance. There  were coaches present from all NCAA Divisions I, II, III and also coaches representing NAIA Schools. Our players competed in front of twelve to forty different college coaches at any one time depending on field location. All and all it was a very beneficial opportunity for our three teams."

  COACH'S SPOTLIGHT - JAMES FIELD
James Field
James (far right) with Reading FC at Madejski Stadium
What teams do you coach?
U13, U14 and U15 Pre-Academy teams and I am also an assistant coach with the U15/16 Crew Soccer Academy Team.

What's your soccer playing experience?
I was a member of the Reading FC Centre of Excellence as a kid in England.

What is your favorite soccer tournament? Why?
Dallas Cup, as it has youth clubs from all over the world competing. It is really well organized and the weather is usually really warm!

Do you own any pets?
Yes, two Chihuahuas - Trixie and Geezer

What is your favorite soccer memory?
I spent two years as youth coach with Reading FC and worked under current Liverpool FC Head Coach, Brendan Rodgers.

What is your favorite car you have ever owned?
My first car, which cost 300 pound, it was an ugly brown, Volkswagen Passat and none of the doors would open. I had to climb through the window.

How would you describe your coaching philosophy?
The focus on the development of technically superior soccer players should be at the forefront of everything we do at the youth level. My coaching style of play is centered on the simple fact that if your team has possession of the ball, you can dictate the game and maintaining possession of the ball is in essence, the best way to defend. If you have the ball the other team can't score!

Do you have a favorite sport, other than soccer?
No! Just Soccer (Football) and my favorite team is Everton F.C.

CSA ENDS ITS FALL SEASON -contributed by Cody Sharrett

The Crew Soccer Academy closed out the fall portion of its season at the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy Winter Showcase in Sarasota, Florida over the weekend. The U-16 squad went 1-2-0, beating the New England Revolution and falling to Solar Chelsea FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Silankonet Bayo led the team in scoring with two goals.

The U-18s also finished 1-2-0 at the Showcase. The Black & Gold was victorious over Solar Chelsea FC, but lost to the New England Revolution and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Andrew McKelvey found the net twice to lead the team in scoring.  The USSDA season will resume in March 2013.

Nate Kohl and William Bayemi were both picked to participate in the select game, a match where U.S Soccer scouts select players from across the country to participate. In the game, Kohl assisted on Bayemi's goal.
