King Soopers Cards
Don't forget that you can donate to CUC simply by purchasing a King Soopers card at the Welcome Spot.  Each time you reload the card at the store, CUC receives 5%!

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

This Week in Sunday School.  We will continue learning about Paul and how he helped people understand how God wanted them to live.  He told about nine characteristics-love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that people who are being guided by God's Holy Spirit show every day.

Calling Parents and Volunteers! Can you sing, dance, laugh, and learn?  Join us downstairs for the whole hour as a Teacher or Shepherd or for just 15 minutes as a Set-Up Helper, Greeter, Prize Counter Helper and Clean-Up Helper!

Join us downstairs for Sunday School and spend time with our amazing kids!  Helping with set-up, greeting, helping with the prize counter and helping clean-up are simple, quick ways to improve our ministry.    These also give you a chance to welcome new families to our church!  You can also help teach our children as a Teacher or Shepherd.
Check out the Sign-Up Genius for Summer:

Sprouts Parents - Parents of Preschool and PreK Kids!  Miss Tanya will be taking the summer off from teaching our Sprouts class so we will need parents to help out!  From June to the end of August we need a teacher.  By having a Sprouts teacher we won't need to include our younger children in the Elementary aged lessons.  Take a look at your schedule and see where you can volunteer.  Check out the Summer Sign Up.

 YOUTH MINISTRY

Sundays-Youth Style!  We will have church school at 9:20 a.m. and then worship together at the 10:00 a.m. service. On the second Sunday of the month, join us for a mystery lunch at 11:00 a.m.  Bring money to cover your appetite.

Youth Groups will meet this Wednesday!  Middle School at 4:30 p.m., and High School at 6:45 p.m.

Need more information or have questions about anything "CUC Youth" related? Contact our Youth Director, Carla Larson at [email protected].

ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Adult Sunday School  Sunday, July 24th, please join our summer Sunday morning Adult Education series titled My Best Thought. Each week a different member of the congregation will discuss their own faith journey. Kent Johnson will be our speaker this Sunday. Please join us in the Fireside Room, 9:10 - 9:50 a.m.

Child Nutrition Act  Two years ago CUC wrote letters to our congressional representatives in support of the Child Nutrition Act. This Act provides funding for feeding children in the U.S.  Renewed funding for this Act is currently being discussed in Congress. If you are in support of this Act please contact your U.S. representative and asked them to vote yes to renew funding for the Child Nutrition Act.

CUC MISSIONS

Mission Sundays  We've recently begun a monthly focus on particular missions that CUC supports.  One Sunday each month, we provide an overview of some of the global and local missions to which CUC contributes.  In June, the mission focus was homelessness, and we raised more than $600 for the cause, to be donated to local organizations supporting the homeless.  In July, our focus has been the global missions of CUC, including disaster relief, Pencils of Promise, and El Porvenir.  If you missed Pastor Steve's sermon on these outstanding organizations, you can tune into CUC's YouTube channel and watch the sermon video.  We raised more than $1500 on July 17 for our Global Missions!  We're grateful for your contributions that allow us to continue our support and outreach to the many organizations that we touch!   You can contribute right now by going to www.columbinechurch.org/donations/.  Make sure you click on Special Instructions to CUC and type the word "Missions" into the blank to designate your gift to CUC's Mission Budget.  You can also make a Text donation right now: text "@cuc #mission 100" to 52014, to make a $100 donation.  Your gift not only helps, it often transforms the entire course of someone's life.  Please consider how you will give today.

Five Ways to Support El Porvenir
In case you missed the El Porvenir section of the Mission Focus presentation on July 17, here's a summary of ways you can help the nonprofit provide latrines, clean water, hygiene education and reforestation to the people in Nicaragua.  Stop by the Welcome Spot to volunteer for any of the following:
1.  Help CUC's Water Committee raise money for El Porvenir projects. In the past, the water team has held Agua for Nicaragua silent auctions and concerts and sold Chocolate Therapist chocolate bars.

2.     Sign up to learn more about CUC's 2017 one-week Mission Trip to Nicaragua. Tentative dates include mid-January, the last week of May or first week of June. For more information, contact Bretha Mahe at [email protected] or 303-798-4556.

3.     Sign up to attend the September 25 Fiends of El Porvenir dinner.  Jack and Kay Dunn are offering 4 free tickets, valued at $20 each, for the first 4 people who sign up. The event will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2305 Gaylord Street. Carpools from the church can be arranged.

4.     Donate an item valued at $50 or more for an auction at the dinner or make a contribution via the El Porvenir website, www.elporvenir.org..

5.     Enjoy a brew at Big Choice Brewing, 7270 W. 118th Place in Broomfield on August  All tips that day will be donated to El Porvenir as part of the $75,000 Challenge to match a $75K donation from thirteen to El Porvenir supporters. Donations can also be made at www.elporvenir.org.

Food Items Needed  When you're shopping for food items to donate, they are in desperate need of pancake mix, syrup, Pop Tarts, instant oatmeal (individual packets), jelly, Jello pudding cups and mixes, and condiments. And, did you know that non-food items cannot be purchased with food stamps?  Please add soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet paper to your shopping list. Your generosity continues to help support families in need.  Thank you!  Your generosity continues to help feed families in need.  Thank you!

Coffee Mission Sales   We will be selling coffee from Cafe Justo, a Presbyterian USA supported mission to build a self-sustaining coffee cooperative in Mexico.  Please come visit us between services every second Sunday of the month. We have regular and dark roast for $13.00 per pound, and smaller sample sizes for $3.50.  Thanks for supporting this great cause while enjoying a cup of coffee!

CUC MUSIC

Isn't it Time You Unleashed Your Song?
We all have the makings of a wonderful song inside us, if only we would allow it to flourish. It's a song built on the joy we often lock inside us. It's based on the melodies of our lives. Unleash your inner music - give it a chance to burst out. Join the CUC Chancel Choir and make your joyful noise!  "Alas for those that never sing, but die with all their music in them!" (Oliver Wendell Holmes) We rehearse Wednesday evenings between September and May, at 7:30 in Fireside Chapel.  We sing at the 8:00 a.m. service each Sunday from Fall through Spring. Call Karen Wenzel at 303-618-3099 for more  information .

CUC FINANCES

We're grateful to the congregation of CUC for your generosity, and want to continue to offer quality programming and staff to each of you.

Now You Can Text Your Offering! In less time than it takes to write a check, you can now make your contribution to CUC with a quick text message! Text @cuc and the dollar amount you would like to donate to 52014. For example, if you would like to donate $200, your text to 52014 will read "@cuc 200." If this is your first text gift, you'll receive a text back to set up your giving account. Thank you for our continued support of CUC! Your time, talent and resources are helping us to change the world!

June, 2016 Financial Statements For those that are interested in the details, the church's latest financial statements are available on the CUC website HERE.  Please note that May was the beginning of the new fiscal year for CUC.

How Can You Help to Change the Financial Picture of CUC?

* Stay on top of your annual pledge. It's helpful for the church's cash flow if you're able to spread your giving throughout the year, rather than waiting until the end of the calendar year. Need to know how much is remaining on your pledge? Just send an email to Lee Ann at [email protected].

* King Soopers gift cards. You can purchase a gift card from the church office during the week, or at the Welcome Spot on Sunday mornings. Your gift card comes loaded with $5 that you can use at King Soopers. For CUC to benefit, you simply have to load the gift card with funds at the check-out, before they ring up your groceries. CUC receives 5% of the funds that you load onto the gift card! You can also use your gift card to pay for gas! Just load your card at the check-out when you're getting groceries, or the gas attendant can load it for you, too. Questions about this program? Email Lee Ann at [email protected].

JOYS & CONCERNS

JOYS:

A HUGE thank you to Craig Monroe and Dick Husted for keeping the church grounds looking so great.  Each week, Dick mows the grass (not a small job) and Craig comes in and does weed control and trimming.  Thank you so very much, you two.  Great job!!

CONCERNS:

Prayers for Ingrid Falkenstine, who is in rehab at Brookdale at Green Mountain in Lakewood, after another short stay in the hospital.  Visitors are encouraged and welcomed.  Her room number.

Prayers are requested for Taityn Speier, 10 year old granddaughter of Jane Boyden.  Taityn was in the hospital with Scarlet Fever, but is home now, doing better.

Prayers for Marlene Lepore, who is facing very dangerous back surgery.

Prayers for Jodee Kring as she undergoes a knee replacement.

Prayers for Judy Simmons and family as she has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and started treatment recently.  Judy felt well enough to go to a conference this past weekend.  Her family was very encouraged that she did so well.

We ask that you keep the following people in your prayers.  Although the immediate crisis may be over, we want our church family to know they continue to be in our thoughts and prayers: Braden, the great-nephew of Barb Rudolf, Max Samu, nephew of Mitch, Lola Edgell, Heather Beckey, the Leach family, Jeff and Linda Veres, Peter Mark, Kristianne Seaton, Ruth Teason, the Dye family, and Ann Wipperman.

There are other unnamed members and friends of CUC who have requested prayers as they deal with unemployment, financial challenges, significant health issues and anger management.

Please pray for all our brothers and sisters in the military and those who serve our country around the world.

If you have a life situation you would like your pastors or the congregation to be aware of please call the church office at 303-798-1845.
