CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Interim Children's Ministry Coordinator - With the departure of Katie Gaertner to a full-time position with the National Park Service, it is with great pleasure that we announce that CUC Member Jeannie Kiel will serve as our Interim Children's Ministry Coordinator. Jeannie currently volunteers with Children's Sunday School and Middle School, has previously served on the Church Council as Secretary and Clerk, and has volunteered in almost every other ministry of the church. During this interim period, the new Staff Parish Relations Board will be evaluating the ministry area as we consider how to best staff this area for future ministry health and growth. Please give Jeannie a warm welcome and your gratitude as she takes on this important role. Jeannie can be reached at [email protected].

This week in Sunday School...our final week learning about the Church Year!  For our final unit on the seasons of the Church Year we will learn about what the church does in Ordinary Time.  In the Ordinary Time after Christmas we usually learn about the Gospels and Jesus' ministry.  One of those stories is about Jesus calming the storm so we will be making storm art with marbles dipped in paint as the waves.  The second season of Ordinary Time happens in the fall and during Thanksgiving.  To celebrate this season we will make a fall snack of mini caramel apples.

Calling Parents and Volunteers!  Join us downstairs for the whole hour as a Teacher or Shepherd or for just 15 minutes as a Set-Up Helper, Greeter, Prize Counter Helper and Clean-Up Helper!

Volunteers are needed for all ages on July 10!  Join us downstairs for Sunday School and spend time with our amazing kids!  Helping with set-up, greeting, helping with the prize counter and helping clean-up are simple, quick ways to improve our ministry.    These also give you a chance to welcome new families to our church!  You can also help teach our children as a Teacher or Shepherd.

Check out the Sign-Up Genius for Summer:

Sprouts Parents - Parents of Preschool and PreK Kids!  The amazing Miss Tanya will be taking the summer off from teaching our Sprouts class so we will need parents to help out!  From June to the end of August we need a teacher.  By having a Sprouts teacher we won't need to include our younger children in the Elementary aged lessons.  Take a look at your schedule and see where you can volunteer.  Check out the Summer Sign Up, linked above.

 YOUTH MINISTRY

Wednesday Youth Groups Middle and High School Mystery Trips are on Wednesday nights!  Middle School is 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and high school is 6:45 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  Be sure Carla has your contact information to text you the details this week!  Email your info to [email protected].

Sundays-Youth Style!  We will then worship at the 10:00 a.m. ser
vice.  On the second Sunday of the month, join us for a mystery lunch at 11:00 a.m.  Bring money to cover your appetite.

CUC MISSIONS

Mission Highlight Sunday  Beginning this Sunday, we begin a year- long initiative of featuring one major mission's focus each month.  Once a month, we will have a Mission Highlight Sunday where we are asking you to consider giving a special donation - over and beyond any pledge or financial commitment to CUC.  We will also ask you to consider ways you might volunteer your time to help.  We would like you to consider a special gift to Missions of $100, $50, or $25.  You can contribute right now by going to www.columbinechurch.org/donations/.  Make sure you click on Special Instructions to CUC and type the word "Missions" into the blank to designate your gift to CUC's Mission Budget.  You can also make a Text donation right now: text "@cuc #mission 100" to 52014, to make a $100 donation.  Your gift not only helps, it often transforms the entire course of someone's life.  Please consider how you will give today.

Mission Collections
  • Throughout the year, we collect toiletries for Network Coffeehouse. There is a basket on top of the brochure stand to the left of the new welcome desk.
  • We continually collect non-perishable food items for Jeffco Action Center and Interfaith, which can be placed in the grocery carts located near the welcome desk in the Narthex. Thank you for your generous support of these worthy missions.

Nicaragua Update

You know how different life is in Nicaragua when you see photos like this. These are some of the 52 children and a teacher at a rural elementary school who are jumping for joy about three new double-pit latrines installed last month by El Porvenir. CUC's Mission Committee has donated $450 to El Porvenir to build the new sanitary latrines at Rafael Herrera School in the Village of La Jarquina in the San Lorenzo region.  Watch for an update about the second school sanitation project that your pledge dollars and contributions are funding this year.  And if you'd like to be involved in the CUC Water Team that works with El Porvenir on these projects and learn about a CUC work trip to Nicaragua in 2017, contact Judi Buehrer, [email protected].

Food Items Needed  When you're shopping for food items to donate, they are in desperate need of pancake mix, syrup, Pop Tarts, instant oatmeal (individual packets), jelly, Jello pudding cups and mixes, and condiments. And, did you know that non-food items cannot be purchased with food stamps?  Please add soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet paper to your shopping list. Your generosity continues to help support families in need.  Thank you!  Your generosity continues to help feed families in need.  Thank you!

Coffee Mission Sales   We will be selling coffee from Cafe Justo, a Presbyterian USA supported mission to build a self-sustaining coffee cooperative in Mexico.  Please come visit us between services every second Sunday of the month.  That's this Sunday!  We have regular and dark roast for $13.00 per pound, and smaller sample sizes for $3.50.  Thanks for supporting this great cause while enjoying a cup of coffee!

CUC MUSIC

Isn't it Time You Unleashed Your Song?
We all have the makings of a wonderful song inside us, if only we would allow it to flourish. It's a song built on the joy we often lock inside us. It's based on the melodies of our lives. Unleash your inner music - give it a chance to burst out. Join the CUC Chancel Choir and make your joyful noise!  "Alas for those that never sing, but die with all their music in them!" (Oliver Wendell Holmes) We rehearse Wednesday evenings between September and May, at 7:30 in Fireside Chapel.  We sing at the 8:00 a.m. service each Sunday from Fall through Spring. Call Karen Wenzel at 303-618-3099 for more  information .

CUC FINANCES

We're grateful to the congregation of CUC for your generosity, and want to continue to offer quality programming and staff to each of you.

Now You Can Text Your Offering! In less time than it takes to write a check, you can now make your contribution to CUC with a quick text message! Text @cuc and the dollar amount you would like to donate to 52014. For example, if you would like to donate $200, your text to 52014 will read "@cuc 200." If this is your first text gift, you'll receive a text back to set up your giving account. Thank you for our continued support of CUC! Your time, talent and resources are helping us to change the world!

May, 2016 Financial Statements For those that are interested in the details, the church's latest financial statements are available on the CUC website HERE.  Please note that Maya was the beginning of the new fiscal year for CUC.

How Can You Help to Change the Financial Picture of CUC?

* Stay on top of your annual pledge. It's helpful for the church's cash flow if you're able to spread your giving throughout the year, rather than waiting until the end of the calendar year. Need to know how much is remaining on your pledge? Just send an email to Lee Ann at [email protected].

* King Soopers gift cards. You can purchase a gift card from the church office during the week, or at the Welcome Spot on Sunday mornings. Your gift card comes loaded with $5 that you can use at King Soopers. For CUC to benefit, you simply have to load the gift card with funds at the check-out, before they ring up your groceries. CUC receives 5% of the funds that you load onto the gift card! You can also use your gift card to pay for gas! Just load your card at the check-out when you're getting groceries, or the gas attendant can load it for you, too. Questions about this program? Email Lee Ann at [email protected].

King Soopers Cards We will have someone in the Narthex dedicated to selling $5.00 King Soopers cards.  Make a difference in CUC's financial picture!  Use and reload your King Sooper's gift card!  CUC receives 5% back on the amount you load onto your gift card at the King Soopers check-out register.  You can also use your gift card for gas!  They're available for purchase at the Welcome spot in the Narthex, or in the church office during the week.

New Breakfast Model  We're grateful to the many years of service that the CUC breakfast chefs, Barb Ramseur and Lynda Mills, have given to us.  With both Barb and Lynda retiring, we will be changing things up a bit and offering muffins, pastries, bagels and juice for purchase on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Complementary coffee, tea and hot chocolate will continue to be served.  In the coming weeks, we'll be offering a punch card to make your breakfast purchases easier.  Thank you for your support and patience during this transition!  You may purchase a "punch card" to use when purchasing your breakfast items.  Pick one up in the office, or at the welcome spot on Sunday mornings.
