Escondido Business Update - March 2014

North County Branding Initiative

Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista are collaborating to brand the region along the 78 corridor to strengthen North County's identity as a great place to do business. The cities have contracted with Northstar Destination Strategies, who began work in August 2013 with a site visit and extensive research and surveying of the area.   Over the next few months, Northstar will be developing the creative portion of the brand, so watch for updates or contact Joyce Masterson (760-839-4621), if you have questions.

Potential Closure of Maple Street Plaza

The City of Escondido is considering closing Maple Street Plaza to motor vehicles at Grand Avenue and Maple Street. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 20114 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Room at City Hall, 201 N. Broadway, to solicit feedback from the public about this issue.

Currently vehicles may enter Maple Street Plaza from Grand Avenue as well as from the alleyway between Grand Avenue and Valley Parkway. The city is considering closing the street at Grand Avenue, but may allow delivery trucks to continue to access businesses from the alleyways. The closure is intended to enhance pedestrian safety as well as to encourage more special events on the plaza.

If you are not able to attend the meeting but wish to send in comments, please send them to Joyce Masterson, Director of Economic Development and Community Relations at jmasterson@escondido.org

 or by calling 760-839-4621.

"Visit Escondido"

visit escondido Visit Escondido, the tourism department of the City, has been working closely with visitor-serving businesses on several programs to expand Escondido's local and regional exposure as a great community to live, work, and visit. The new Welcome Center at 235 E. Grand Ave. is actively receiving visitors and residents and participating in downtown events. The first annual Dine Out Escondido! program created January restaurant month in conjunction with our statewide partner Visit California. There was a great response with 25 restaurant participants - 6 around town and 19 downtown - and the program was very successful. Additionally, the VisitEscondido.com website offers a full calendar of events (over 80 posts each month) as well as news, things to do, dining, wineries, craft breweries, outdoor activities, and engaged social media. Working closely with Escondido businesses and community leaders to promote the many lifestyle benefits offered here actively supports the City's dynamic economic development efforts.
