Bike Around the Bay

 

Bike Around the Bay is right around the corner! This fabulous two-day, 180 mile ride will be held this weekend on October 12 and 13. Take in all of the natural beauty the bay has to offer on this fun, yet challenging ride. You'll hop on the Bolivar ferry and post-ride party at Moody Gardens on Saturday. After an overnight stay in Galveston enjoy a challenging and fun ride over Galveston Causeway and Fred Hartman Bridge.

 

This is a unique Houston ride you need to experience with some of your best riding buddies. Also, this is a great ride to share with non-riding friends/family, have them meet you in Galveston for all the fun Saturday night!

The 3rd Annual Oktoberfest Triathlon at Cross Creek Ranch will take place this Sunday, October 13. Cross Creek Ranch is a gorgeous property in Fulshear, Texas! Enjoy a great lake swim followed by a beautiful scenic ride and a nice run through this premier neighborhood. This event will start at 7:25am and will offer a newbie swim wave for those doing their first triathlon. Afterwards enjoy samples from No Label Brewing Co.

On Saturday, October 26 Bike Houston will host the 41st Annual Moonlight Ramble. Since 1973, thousands of riders have lit up the night in Houston for this amazing fully-supported bicycle ride. Starting from the George R Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston at 11:59 pm (yes, midnight) the ramble will have an 8-mile and 20-mile route. Prizes awarded for best costume and best lighted bike. All riders are required to wear a bicycle helmet and have lights on their bikes. This ride supports Bike Houston, the local non-profit that supports cycling advocacy by expanding riding options for all Houston cyclists.

Tighten your helmet, oil your chain, turn on your lights, and get ready for the Aurora Picture Show Bike-In on Saturday, November 2nd. This one-of-a-kind bike-in experience along the bayou welcomes all two-wheel loving Houstonians to bring their ride and enjoy outdoor film featuring artist-made short films celebrating bike culture, curated by Scott Stulen. After the ride to Sesquicentennial park, enjoy the vendors and bike art on site. Once the sun sets, films will be shown on the big screen.
 

 

The second annual HTX Bike Fest is an all-day festival taking place on Saturday, November 16 at Market Square Park in Downtown Houston from 10am-6pm. This festival is designed to bring cyclists and bike enthusiasts from all over the city together in one place for just one day.  With an all-day swap meet and multiple demos and vendors, as well as sprint contests and yours truly spinning up Bike Barn's famous "Spin-a-ritas", there is something for everyone. The festival will be FREE to the public and the Bike Fest will be working to raise funds for local charity Barrio Dogs.

Kipp Academy is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. Bike Barn is working with Kipp Academy on expanding their cycling club and pulling together bikes for their BP MS150 team. They are in need of hybrid and road bikes for their school club. Most people planning to tackle a double century bike ride need a few months of training and preparation. But not Scott Aspelin. He's set to ride his third Bike Around the Bay, this weekend, 180 miles over two days. And that's not too different from any other weekend for Aspelin. As one of Bike Around the Bay's Top Fundraisers, Aspelin is in his third year of participating in this event. Each year he loves riding the bay and see what his fundraising efforts are going to!
