Our Children's Department is excited to offer a story time designed specifically for children with special needs with emphasis on autism spectrum disorder. Songs, stories, puppet shows, and finger plays in a low sound and soft lighting environment. 

Special Needs Story Time will be held every Friday from 11:40 AM - 12:00 PM in the Story Room. Registration is required for this story time. Call the children's desk at 801-852-6682 each Monday to reserve a spot for your child.

Fall is always an exciting time at the Provo City Library, and this September kicks off a number of new and exciting programs! Whether you're looking to come to our regular story times for children of all ages, to meet some of your favorite authors, or to enjoy free entertainment every Monday night, look no further than the Provo City Library. 

There's always something happening at the Library on Monday Nights! Enjoy Make and Take Crafts, Story Time, and free performances in the Ballroom every Monday Night. 

September 9: Make and Take Crafts / Story Time

Join us this week as we make colorful pencil cases! These free crafts are for children 12 and under; children must be accompanied by an adult. 

September 16: Story Music with Aspen Winds and Storyteller Rachel Hedman

Capture timeless chamber pieces as you take your family on a fantastical journey with the woodwind quintet Aspen Winds and accompanying storyteller Rachel Hedman. With stories and music like Peter and the Wolf, Ferdinand, and the Ugly Duckling, this is a program your entire family will enjoy.

The Provo City Library will host the worldwide launch of Brandon Mull's new book, Wild Born on September 10 at 7:00 PM in the Library Ballroom. Wild Born is the first installment of Scholastic's new multi-platform, multi-author series, Spirit Animals. Bring your spirit animal (of the stuffed variety; no live animals, please!), get your book signed, and see a live demonstration of the Spirit Animals game.

Novelist David Abrams will visit the Library on September 28 at 7:00 PM in Room 201. Abrams retired in 2008 after a 20-year career in the active-duty Army as a journalist. He was named the Department of Defense's Military Journalist of the Year in 1994 and received several other military commendations throughout his career. David Abrams's debut novel about the Iraq War, Fobbit, was named a New York Times Notable Book of 2012 and a Best Book of 2012 by Paste Magazine, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Barnes and Noble. It was also featured as part of B&N's Discover Great New Writers program. 
 
Special thanks to our friends at the Provo Canyon Review and the Utah Humanities Book Festival for bringing David Abrams here to talk about Fobbit and life as a combat journalist. 


If you're looking for ways to get your child excited about reading, why not join one of our book clubs for mothers and their children? Each book club offers crafts, treats, and a book talk about the month's book. 

Mother & Daughter Book Club meets the last Tuesday of every month from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM. This month's book is The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. Pre-register at the beginning of the month at the Children's Desk or by calling 801-852-6682. 
 
Mother & Son Book Club (Dads are welcome too!) meets the third Tuesday of every month from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM. This month's book is Charlie Jo Jackson's Guide to Not Reading by Tom Greenwald.  Pre-register at the beginning of the month at the Children's Desk or by calling 801-852-6682.
