Board of Directors Elections To Be Held June 10-11
Cumberland Community Action Program, Inc. is holding elections for two (2) seats on the Board of Directors to represent Sampson County. Residents of Sampson County whose income is at or below the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines are eligible to vote for a representative. (The representative does not have to meet the income requirement but he or she does have to live in the community represented.) Individuals selected to serve on the CCAP Board of Directors will be elected for a five year term. Individuals 21 years of age and older who reside in Sampson County and meet the Federal Income Guidelines are eligible to vote.

WHEN: Monday and Tuesday, June 10 - 11, 2013
TIME: 10:00 am until 12:00 pm
PLACE: June 10 - Samspon County DSS, 360 County Complex Road, Clinton, NC

In honor of National Community Action Month, CCAP hosted an event Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to pay tribute to 2012's top volunteers throughout the agency and showcase the programs and services of CCAP to the public.

National Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
We are pleased to announce that the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive hosted on May 11th brought in 120,504
pounds that went directly to the Second Harvest
Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina.
Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered, we couldn't have done it without you.

Patricia Tyson, CCCS Director hosts VITA Luncheon to
thank all the volunteers for everything they did

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program helped save families over $505,195 in tax preparation and filing fees in 2013. Volunteers logged in about 1,794 hours.
"If it wasn't for the dedicated employees and volunteers who go above and beyond for us, we wouldn't be able to assist as many people as we do," stated Patricia Tyson, Director of CCCS.

Head Start Day 2013
Recruitment for the 2013 - 2014 is well underway. Family Services and Head Start Administrative staff gathered on Saturday, May 18, 2013 to host Head Start Day. This activity offered parents the opportunity to complete applications on site and also enjoy free food and fun for
their children!

to host the Crime Prevention & Youth Forum

ASPIRE partnered up with the Boys & Girls Club of Fayetteville to discuss bullying, drug addiction and the importance of staying in school to elementary aged students. The goal was to make them see the importance of the various issues that they might have to deal with in the future. Stephanie Ashley, Director of the ASPIRE program stated, "This was such an important audience to speak to and it was such an honor to be part of it."

 850 Homes Weatherized by the Weatherization Assistance Program
Congratulations to the Weatherization Assistance Program for weatherizing the 850th home! They celebrated by going to Ms. Christine Hough's home since she was the 850th home. The Weatherization Assistance Program also took the time to thank a few of the contractors they work with on a continuous basis.

Head Start Honors Gertrude Johnson for 39 Years of Dedicated Service
 On Friday, May 24, 2013 Head Start held its final all staff meeting for the year prior to partial departure of education staff members. This meeting also recognized Lead Teacher Supervisor, Gertrude Johnson for her retirement of 39 years of service to Head Start and Cumberland Community Action Program. Best wishes to Mrs. Johnson on her retirement!

5th Annual Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament
 July 26th will be the 5th Annual Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament at King's Grant Golf Course hosted by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina. Proceeds from the tournament benefit operations of the SHFB to ensure the efficient delivery of nutritious food products to those most in need in our area.
