Tax Season is Once Again Upon Us
Consumer Credit Counseling Service will open its VITA Site on February the 4th this year. Yes this is a late start due to Congress and the fiscal cliff tax changes. The IRS will start processing taxes on January 30th. All CCAP employees can start making appointments to have their taxes filed early on January 30th and 31st as well as February 1st. The VITA Site will open to the public on February 4th.
If you earn less than $55,000 per year our volunteer tax preparers will help you prepare your Federal and State tax returns and file them electronically. All volunteers are IRS-certified to provide free basic income tax returns and electronic filings to qualified individuals in our communities. They can inform you about special tax credits for which you may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, and Credit for the elderly or Disabled.
This year in addition to the face to face tax preparation, the IRS is offerings self-assistance services at our VITA Site. If you have a simple tax return and need a little help or do not have access to a computer, you can visit our site and an IRS volunteer will guide you through the process.
To have your tax return prepared at our VITA Site you need to the following information with you:
- Proof of Identification-Picture ID-
- Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents or a social security Administration verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration or
- Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents
- Proof of Foreign status, if applying for an (ITIN)
- Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
- Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-Mis from all employers
- Interest and dividends statement from banks (forms 1099)
- A copy of last year's federal and state returns if available
- Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposits, such as bank check
- Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number)
- To file taxes electronically on a married- filling -joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign required forms
It is extremely important that each person use the correct Social Security Number. The most accurate information is usually located on your original Social Security Card. If you do not have an SSN for you or a dependent, you should complete Form SS-5, Social Security Number Application. This form should be submitted to the nearest Social Security Administration Office.

Congratulations Head Start
 | | Donna Barnette, Head Start Director |
Please join me in congratulating Donna and her team for the selection by PNC of CCAP Head Start centers for PNC's Grow Up Great Program!
The program encourages PNC employees to volunteer with approved agencies--and the following email announces CCAP Head Start is on the "approved" list. The PNC recognition is spurring thinking among Donna and her Management Team of the various activities that volunteers can perform, coming at a great time as the team looks at expanding ways of attracting in-kind services. PNC's approval comes with the potential, after 12 months of volunteer participation, of a monetary award.
Way to go Donna Barnette--on multiple levels!

ASPIRE Hosts Family Holiday Celebration
 | | One Happy Child! |
A day filled with joy, laughter and tears;these were the emotions seen on the faces of both the children and the ASPIRE participants as they were opening presents.
This holiday season the ASPIRE program sponsored 10 participants and their families. With the help of 30 organizations and individual sponsors, the ASPIRE holiday celebration was a success. One parent expressed her gratitude by saying, "Thank you so much to everyone for this generous gift. If it weren't for these gifts, my kids wouldn't be receiving anything. I cannot express how much this program has helped me and my family." Every child was given one gift during the event, but was allowed to take the rest home to put under the Christmas tree.
Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success, we couldn't have done it without you.

Human Resources Conducts New Hire Orientation
New CCAP Employees during their orientation.
In most organizations new hire orientation consists of receiving a handbook and piles of paperwork for the employee to review at their own time. Employees are expected to find most information on their own and aren't given a lot of explanation. The goal of CCAP is to change this. The Human Resources department will be conducting new hire orientation for ALL new hires. This will allow new employees the opportunity to learn more about CCAP and the other programs/services we offer. It's also a great opportunity to ask any questions or bring up any concerns they may have.
