CCAP hosts holiday end-of-year meeting

Angela Stevens, Lead Teacher

"CCAP Head Start is for children, parents, and employees," Lead Teacher Angela Stevens announced in a videotaped interview to the CCAP Governing Board.  Ms. Stevens described several certificates plus the Associate's degree and the Bachelor's degree she received through CCAP supported training and the agency's tuition aid program.  From bus driver to teacher assistant to lead teacher, her career pathway has received encouragement and support from the agency and the Head Start management team.

The annual Board and Senior Staff (Directors and Managers) end-of-year meeting was the venue where Angela Steven's interview, along with those of an ASPIRE participant, a Weatherization participant, and CCAP employee Felicia Boyer Smith were presented.

"I encourage all employees to look into the CCAP Educational Assistance Program," said Felicia Boyer Smith in her video.  "This is one more benefit that comes from working at CCAP," she added.  Ms. Boyer-Smith is pursuing her Bachelor's degree.

The comments from program participants and employees were met with applause by the 20 members of the board of directors and 20 CCAP senior staff who attended the meeting-held in a beautiful setting at the Fayetteville Botanical Gardens.

Each CCAP Program Director plus the CFO and Human Resources Director presented three top accomplishments of their team.

Stephanie Ashley, Weatherization Director, mentioned the more than 400 homes that her team has made more energy efficient in 2012-increasing the comfort and decreasing utility expense-for each home.

Patricia Tyson highlighted the 1042 families who, through the work of Consumer Credit Counseling Service's housing counselors, avoided foreclosure and were able to stay in their homes.

Board Chairman Lisa Chance said, "In the face of challenges, such as the close out of American Recovery and Reinvestment projects, CCAP board and staff produced many, many accomplishments in 2012 that benefit individuals, families, and the community."

"The successes of the year give board and staff a positive foundation," said CEO Cynthia Wilson, "the foundation that will carry us forward into even better and stronger ways of providing guidance to and opportunities for those of humble means.  I look forward with excitement and pleasure to expanding CCAP's repertoire of strengths in 2013!"

distributing the Fayetteville Observer

This year was the first time Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina partnered up with The Fayetteville Observer for Hawkers for Hunger. SHFB volunteers stood outside of approved  businesses and distributed newspapers from 6 am until 6 pm.

For every newspaper purchased for $1.00, .75 cents was donated directly to the SHFB.

"Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible," says Laura Henry, Volunteer and Events Coordinator. "We had some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers out there this year. Volunteers were asked to stay for 2 hr shifts, but some volunteers stayed most of the day. It was truly amazing."

Hawkers for Hunger were able to raise over $1,500 to help assist families in need this holiday season.
