"Loving Creativity" of Oak Grove
I recently read a book titled,
If Aristotle Ran General Motors
by Tom Morris.
Morris spent fifteen years teaching philosophy at Notre Dame University and now is a much sought-after motivational speaker and a very active and thought-provoking author. If the book's title isn't intriguing enough, there are several highly respected area business leaders who include this book on their short list of recommended reading.
There are many ideas from the book that deserve mention, but one stood out to me as especially powerful. Morris was teaching an entry-level philosophy class when a young student approached him with the question, "What is the meaning of life?" I guess if you teach philosophy you should expect that kind of question, and yet in that instance Morris did not have an answer. He pondered the question for months when finally, about to present to a large group, he arrived at an answer to share. The meaning of life, according to Tom Morris, is "creative love...love as a dynamic power moving out into the world and doing something original". Does that idea of "loving creativity" resonate with you as much as it does with me? I find it reflective of the awesome power and love of our Creator; it is likewise so powerfully reflected in human nature when we are at our best. Loving creativity can also be used to capture the spirit of Oak Grove, to engage the hearts and minds of our students to serve God and others with all their gifts and abilities. There is a spirit of loving creativity that drives one of the biggest days in Oak Grove's annual calendar-Giving Hearts Day. Coming up on February 14th, Giving Hearts Day is an opportunity for everyone in the Oak Grove community to support the school's unique mission through gifts large and small. We invite you to come alongside Oak Grove and all our talented faculty and staff in our quest to bring creative love to every dimension of the school. Thanks for your partnership with us; thanks for your loving creativity! And if you happen to read, If Aristotle Ran General Motors, I look forward to talking with you about it sometime-it's one of those books that engages and inspires. Happy reading!

Band News
Often times it is VERY important that the band (probably the choir too) listens to a recording of something they're playing, or something similar to give an example of style, articulation, etc. However, we have a tough time doing that because our speaker system is in dire need of an upgrade.
We are looking for old speakers that you may have lying around and unused that still work? We need this pretty badly and the students and myself thank you for considering this request! Please contact me at ryan.dodd@oakgrovelutheran.com
Sincerely,
Ryan Dodd
