Declaring the "Good News" of Jesus Christ
This newsletter is a little long because we have so much to share about our first month in Brazil.  Thanks for staying connected.
Missions Banquet: a GREAT Success!
On Sept. 22nd we had our Missions Fund-Raising Banquet at the Holiday Inn in Overland Park, Kansas.  We would like to thank all those who were able to attend.  And for those who were unable, we really missed you!  The food was absolutely amazing and we enjoyed the opportunity we had to share our vision.  We were so overwhelmed with the love and support that has been shown toward us.  Approximately 25% of our Monthly budget was pledged at the banquet and about 20% of our moving expenses was also given.  It is a HUGE blessing for us to know so many of our friends are standing behind our family as we have stepped out in faith to come preach the gospel in Brazil.
TESTIMONY REPORT

George (one of the waiters) listened to the message during the banquet and afterwards we had the privilege to lead him to receive Jesus as his Savior. George said he had not been living right for quite a long time and is engaged to be married.

HIS COUNTENANCE COMPLETELY CHANGED AND HE WAS SO HAPPY!

Heading Out For Brazil
We left Kansas City on October 1, 2013 with 25 pieces of luggage (3 check-ins and 2 carry-ons each). Thank you Randy Marselus for bringing all that stuff to the airport! It was not an easy task at the check-in counter. You might be wondering... "Why did they take so many bags?" The answer is simple... everything we take, we don't have to buy in Brazil.
SAYING GOODBYE
IS NEVER EASY!
When the house sold and closed, we had 6 weeks to sell everything and move to Brazil. Leaving stuff is the easy part, but saying goodbye to family is the most difficult of all. There is a saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I believe this is very true. Especially now that we have moved, it really makes you appreciate family and friends.

Settling in...
The first two weeks in Brazil we stayed in a temporary rental.  While we were looking for a permanent home  to rent, the Lord did an amazing thing!  We found a fully-furnished home for rent in a safe gated community.  The home had been empty for at least 6 months. The owner and realtor both said this was all a GOD THING. They both are Christians and were elated at what the Lord did for us. The realtor was supposed to be on vacation in another city until mid-November, but he said the Lord told him to come back because he had work to attend to. He said, "I would never come back from vacation to rent a home, but it was all God's plan."  We rented the home well under market value . While it is about $200 over our budget, it means we do not have to spend money buying furniture for a whole hole, a HUGE savings for us!  It has 3 bedrooms (Sophia and Gigi are sharing), and it also has two separate guest rooms: it is common in this type of neighborhood to have a separate space for guests. This will be great to receive our family and YOU in Brazil.

Here is the view looking to the west from our house.
Our pets made it and are a hit in Brazil!

Rio
A special thanks to Rob Ewens and Dave Knapp  who stepped in to drive Rio and Moses to the Chicago Airport. They had to spend the night in a hotel,  dog sit the whole next day in Chicago, and then see to it that the dogs were safely checked into the cargo department. What an adventure, thanks guys!
School is in Session

The girls started their first day of school on Monday October 28th.  They are following an accredited U.S. based  internet school program.

Ministry News
We preached the word, Sunday evening October 20th, at the Tabernáculo da Glória Nazarene Church in Rio Claro. 16-18 people came forward to receive Jesus Christ! We stayed at the altar praying for people until 11 pm.  What a blessed night as souls came into the Kingdom and many were healed and touched by God!

Testimony Spotlight
Meet Amazing Anna Luiza...
AMAZING ANNA LUIZA: (A little long, but well worth the time). This wonderful young girl was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 8. They removed her tumor and she has had 4 good years since. A few months back she began having symptoms again (now 12) and they found out that the cancer is back. The chemo treatments have not had any effect. We were invited to go to their home to pray. WHAT AN HONOR AND BLESSING. Here are some of the highlights.  Anna Luiza said she wants to be a lawyer and loves to paint pictures and do make up. I asked her if she believes in miracles. Her response was, "YES I DO!" "Have you seen one?" I asked. "YES," she replied. "ME, when I was first diagnosed with cancer!" Immediately I knew this was NO ORDINARY GIRL. We talked about God, the cross, salvation and God's amazing Word. We prayed and Anna Luiza prayed to receive Jesus into her heart. As we spoke to Anna Luiza, her mother (black shirt) and aunt (red jacket) were both fixed on the Word being shared, tears were in their eyes. I asked them both if they have ever asked Jesus into their heart to be their Lord and Savior. They said, "No, not in the way that you explained the Gospel." "Do you want to receive Jesus?" I asked. "Yes we do," they both said. We prayed and the fire of God touched them both. The mom said, "My headache is gone!!!  I felt a hand come down and touch my head and remove the headache. I have had this now for 28 consecutive days. What is this?" She asked. We explained to her that it is the amazing love and power of God that has come and brought you peace. Both described a peace and were overcome in God's presence, in which they explained they have never experienced before. I asked them if they attend church anywhere and they replied that they are Jehovah's Witness. Wow! I thought. This is truly an amazing thing! As we were driving home I pondered, "God I'm glad I didn't know ahead of time that they were Jehovah's Witness." It would have got in the way. Unknown to me, as I shared the full plan of God's salvation and the finished work of the cross and that salvation is not limited to works, a church or a denomination but is for EVERYONE who would RECEIVE God's love that was demonstrated on the Cross through Jesus Christ. Little did I know this Word was in the spirit directed at the Mother and Aunt to receive Jesus Christ.
PRAISE GOD FOR ANNA LUIZA and her MOTHER and AUNT who were BORN AGAIN by receiving JESUS CHRIST. THANK YOU GOD FOR ALLOWING US THE PRIVILEGE TO MEET AMAZING ANNA LUIZA.

MEET THE HONEY VENDORS:  Tuesday Oct. 29th in  the city center of Rio Claro, Brazil we were approached by this couple selling honey.  We politely declined and kept walking on our way. For some reason we felt compelled to talk to them. So we turned around and chased the couple down. We started talking with them and found out they live in another city and have spend the last 30 years selling honey on the streets from city to city. I asked if we could pray for them and tears filled the woman's eyes. It was a beautiful moment, it was like time stopped as we visited with this beautiful couple on the busy city sidewalk.  She told us she suffers from high blood pressure and has burning in her legs and feet all day long. I can only imagine, they work so hard walking the streets selling honey all day. MAKES ME THINK about all the opportunities God sends to us throughout the week and we are often to busy or in a hurry to stop and just talk to people and show God's love. Well back on track, we prayed and the lady was so precious. She said, "I felt something in my legs, I don't have any burning sensations now. It's not there and it was immediate!" Yes, Jesus often does that! We all laughed together and learned that they too were also Christians. It was great to make new friends!

A Personal Note...

Dear Friends,

I don't even know where to start! How can I put into a few words what God has done for us, the doors that He has closed, the many doors He has opened and the miracles and clear work of His hands that we have seen especially during the past few months?
I remember being in our house in Olathe just a few short weeks after we had moved in (summer 2012), and walking up the stairs with a laundry basket in tow. The Lord CLEARLY spoke to me and told me "Don't get too attached... you won't be here very long!". I paused, got a little upset ( I must confess) , and I cried. I put dow the laundry basket and looked around, thanked Him for the house and what He had done, and prayed that His will be done. Little did I know at that time that almost exactly one year later we would be on a plane moving to Brazil as a family.
I left Brazil as a 19 year old and lived in the US for almost 21 years... I honestly could not picture life back in Brazil after so many years.
So much has now happened in these past 4 weeks. We are finally settling in. We've ventured out quite a bit and have really done well figuring out our way around this beautiful area (I grew up about 2 1/2hrs away from here).
We have met some amazing people, begun to form new friendships and have also been able to spend time with our family here.
We have embraced the lifestyle and are enjoying the food (a little too much!) and late nights.
One of the things that I am enjoying the most is spending quality time with the girls. We eat all our meals together (Bella gets up early and most mornings when I come down the breakfast table is set up and coffee is ready). They have had to leave a lot behind, especially for their age, but they have embraced this experience with open arms and have been amazingly strong! God has something for each of them to do here in Brazil and It has been a blessing to Mike and I as parents to watch them walk through this time with such faith and trust in the Lord.
We all miss our family and friends and there have been many, many tears, but I can truly say that God has confirmed His word and direction for our lives many times over, and I am so thankful for that!
I am so blessed to be serving the Lord alongside this incredible man and looking forward to the months ahead, and to all that God has planned for our family while here! I treasure all of the prayers, words of encouragement and support  from so many of you!
Please keep in touch and know that you are loved and missed!

 HOW DOES SHE DO IT?

Debora has been going non-stop since we arrived. Interpreting/Translating from English to Portuguese, then Portuguese to English.    She has been interpreting our meetings and all the conversations in between. The pressure is on for ALL of us (Michel, Gigi and Sophia) non-Portuguese speaking Borchardt family members to step it up.
Testimony News...
WHILE AT THE MALL (Piracicaba, Brazil)

We were at the VIVO cell phone store and noticed the attendant had an elastic brace wrap on his wrist. I asked him what was wrong, he said he had a fall a few days back. The doctors could find no broken bones, and he had another doctor's appointment right after he was finished with us. The pain was evident as he struggled to use that hand to perform his job duties. I asked him if he had ever had a miracle, and that I would like to pray for him. In the midst of the busy showroom the name of Jesus was declared over his wrist. His eyes lit up like the stars, he removed the bandage and ALL pain and limitations were gone! He was bewildered in amazement. As we left we saw him going around to all his coworkers showing them his healed wrist.
JESUS is AMAZING and you and I are the ones who shine the light in this world of His love and power.
