Celebrating My 10th Year at this Location!

Like all of you, the start of a new year comes with reflections and goals. As I write my first newsletter for 2016, it's hard to fathom that it's been 30 years since I started working in the health and fitness industry. I began my first fitness job, while in my junior year of college, when I was an Assistant Manager at the Body Place in Palos Heights Il, working nights and weekends, while obtaining my Bachelor's Degree at Trinity Christian College, which I recieved in 1987.  

My career has taken me on an exciting and unique path, including: managing larger healthclubs and nutritional centers, serving on the advisory board of a national magazine, running healthcare communications for hospitals and clinics, volunteering to help lead fundraising campaigns for a variety of good causes in various cities in Wisconsin including the capitol chapter of the March of Dimes in Madison, WI;  overseeing children's health and safety programs on a state and on a national level for the Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Virginia.  I've been in front of and behind the camera on a variety of the above including being a national speaker on public health and safety and working with then First Lady Hillary Clinton.    

This month marks my 10th year serving clients at this location, doing what I believe is now my most important work as a professional. I've found my true calling serving client's needs on a more personal basis and running my business on my own terms with a complete focus to service, as I bring my Total Body Steps to Fitness to life for you. Caring for each human being individually has been and continues to be so gratifying, especially those who want to be healthier against the odds.

years with overcoming clubbed feet, or the challenges I've had losing my mother at an early age, but when I see the heart in someone and can help them overcome, that's my true reward.

As I celebrate 2016, my professional resolution is to serve you even more than before with programs and services, because I believe that experience and reflection are how true quality service is built. 

On a personal note, I resolve to appreciate the NOW even more this year and to further embrace the simple pleasures of life: time to breathe and be and savor this one life I have.  To appreciate the value that technology brings and how it connects us all (like this newsletter, my Blogs, Pintrest Youtube and Facebook pages) but to not forget the value of the basics - such as how your mind connects uniquely with actual handwriting when you write your thoughts out by hand.   Don't miss that article, below, and be sure to scripe your own intention at JKFY when doors reopen January 4th.
 
To further your resolutions, spiritual and physical well-being, join me on the mat this week for yoga! Our physical practice will help you to detox and renew.  Our spiritual practice will help you see your intentions take flight to reality as you bring balance into your own life. No matter how lofty your New Year's goal is, remember that every mountain we climb is the result of the individual steps we take.  Our self-belief in our abilities and positive attitude are just as important as our physical abilities for success.   

At print time for this newsletter, I will be hiking in Arizona, a time all the more meaningful because it was exactly 10 years from the time my brand photo (top of this article) was taken when I reached my goal of a mountain peak. I still have a sweatshirt I bought to commemorate that climb 10 years ago, and the message on it still resonates and I hope it does for you too:

Most people set a resolution in the new year, and one of the reasons those resolutions fail is the individual lacks the understanding and expertise to take their goals to fruition. When I speak of training Total Body and an integrated approach, it means seeing the client as a whole person -- getting to know them and their history from physical to family, from how they sleep and eat to how they deal with stress and work.  It's a personal relationship and a positive one with a plan for at home and while training with me.  By personally charting for yourself and accountability to me as your trainer, you can use those markers to take those steps to even greater success.
