What Eagles Can Teach Us   An impressive fact to me about eagles  is that they never gives up living, instead as they find they cannot do the needed flight speed and maneuvers, the eagles retire away in the rock to a mountaintop retreat and over a five month period go through a metamorphosis, allowing the eagle to live for another 30 - 40 years!There are times in your life that you must look back and take stock of it: the good and the bad choices and experiences and make change. Congrats in the USTA (Tennis) Regionals to JKFY Client Lisa Stephens!
At press time, after winning at the state level, Lisa is competing in the USTA Sectionals Championship 3.5 for ages 40 & over -- a big accomplishment at any age and she's looking and playing great with the best of those 40 and up at age 56!  But even more impressive is she's done this following double knee replacements in July 2013, and slimmed down 35 pounds at JKFY too!  Way to go Lisa, you are in it to win it, on or off the court.~ Jackie (Watch for LIsa's upcoming Wall of Fame award in a future edition.)  Lisa adds, "Thanks Jackie, I couldn't have done this without your training and support."

A wonderful new yoga class, 
Stretch and Restore, will be starting next Wednesday, September 2 at 7:15 pm. This relaxing flow class combines the benefits of a flow class and ends with restorative Yin and meditation for stress relief and positive visualizations. Great for any level from beginner on up it is especially beneficial in opening tight joints, plus easier on wrists and feet.  If you enjoyed Tuesday night 7 pm (All-Level) which concludes this week or Wednesday 7 pm Yin class that will be replaced by this new class, Stretch and Restore gives you the best of both in one class! With respect to functional
movement, research has
shown a correlation between the weight of an individual and the functional capacity of their gait. A study of more than 200 women displayed that heavier women exhibited poorer balance, slower gait velocity and shorter steps, regardless of their muscular strength.  

A Biomarker's study noted by the National Academy of Sports Medicine suggests that adults who are not involved in exercising regimens will lose approximately 5 - 7 pounds of muscle per decade while simultaneously adding 15 pounds of fat.

Cardiovascular disease is now the leading killer of women, more than the other six leading causes of deaths of American women combined. In fact, consider any girlfriend and know that based on current statistics one of you will die of this disease (1 of every 2 women currently dies from cardiovascular disease) .  Another great reason to get a gal pal to start training with you at JKFY as a Fitness Friend!
