This week's yoga classes have a physical practice to help your posture, with special emphasis on correction of an anterior pelvic tilt.  Postures like the one above are beneficial in correction as they lengthen the psoas muscle which when inhibited is a main reason for tight hip flexors. You could be suffering from an Anterior Pelvic Tilt.  Here's Help.

   

Anterior pelvic tilt is a common postural problem that is easily recognized because it creates a large curve in the lower back. 

Another way to think about anterior pelvic tilt is by imagining the pelvic is a glass of water. Anterior tilt would be similar to tipping the glass forward to pour out the water.   This anterior pelvic tilt is the result of a muscular imbalance. 

The glutes and abdominal muscles are responsible for contracting and rotating the pelvis backward.  If your abs and glutes are weak, the pelvis will drop in the front.  This weakness can occur from a number of factors, such as pregnancy, which can cause stress to the pelvic floor muscles as well as excess weight, especially in the abdominals and lack of activity.
