JVs TO PLAY FOR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Hyack JVs continued their dominance on Thursday with a 66-38 win over Seaquam in the AAA semi final at Mercer Stadium. With the win, the team advances to the Subway Bowl JV Championship game, for the first time in the history of the program.

New West's first two TDs came on passes from Kinsale Philip to Shane Belsher. The 2nd major was part of another exceptional 2nd quarter, in which the Hyacks outscored their opponents 27-0. Rushing TDs from Philip, Sammy Sidhu and Broxx Comia, gave the Hyacks a 34-8 halftime lead. In the 2nd half Lucas Sabau scored a pair of TDs, while Comia, Sidhu and Robertson Yagyog each added one more. All four players rushed for over 100 yards on the day. Defensively, Belsher and Yanni Angelopoulos each intercepted a pass, while Finn Stark and Isaiah James also stood out.

The JVs now face Mt Douglas in the championship game, which kicks off at 1:30 at BC Place Stadium. It should be a very good game as the two teams played a thriller in Victoria earlier this season, with the Hyacks coming out on top 48-47. New West is now 11-0 against BC competition in 2015 and 21-1 the past two seasons.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $15 from any varsity player, or you can purchase them online and contact Marilyn Davis in the sigma office to arrange pickup. Tickets at the gate will cost $20. Kids 7 and under are free.

If you can't attend on Saturday, the game will be broadcast live here.

STRONG SEASON FOR VARSITY ENDS IN PROVINCIAL SEMI'S

In their first trip to the final four since 2009, the Hyacks fell 28-12 to Vancouver College. The loss ended what has been a very good season the varsity team, as they improved seemingly every week and certainly lived up to their #4 provincial ranking. Jamie Shiho found Justin Swartz with an 18 yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter to get the Hyacks on the board. Early in the 4th quarter Shiho scored on a QB sneak, which made the score 21-12.

Defensively Jeff Lugtu was outstanding, registering 12 tackles (2 for loss), a sack and 2 passes broken up. He is currently 3rd in the province with 89 tackles. David Penalver added 7 tackles and an interception. Marcel Wang and Gurvir Ghuman also stood out defensively. A complete recap of Friday's game can be found here

The coaching staff is extremely proud of these young men. They performed well among the top teams in BC all season and brought our program back to a high level where we expect to remain. They also represented their families, school and community with the SHARP ideals that our program embodies. We look forward to watching them grow as young men and wish them continued success!
