 TAILGATE AUCTION A RECORD BREAKER

What a night! Our 13th annual tailgate auction was our biggest and most successful to date. Nearly 200 guests and sponsors helped us raise the largest total ever for the NWSS Hyack Football program (with a portion of proceeds going to the Royal City Hyack Football Club). MC Peter Battistin kept the pace fast and energetic, beginning with Coach Farhan's special presentation of a Hyack jersey to long time sponsor and supporter of Hyacks Football, Dave Vallee.

There were more special moments in the evening, including live auction prizes with personal connections: Lawrence Scow, renowned Kwakiutl Nation artist and grandfather to Atom Hyack Ilja Scow, created a hand carved painted paddle especially for the auction. Varsity player Declan Baker's parents Lori and Ross donated their Scottsdale townhouse for a luxury vacation. Capping the evening off, the Hawaiian vacation (donated by Live Auction sponsor, Westland Insurance and its board director, Brent Atkinson, a long-time member of our Hyack Family) went to coaching alumni Ryan Leslie.
Varsity Captain Dillon Cusker took the honours for the Hyacks arm wrestling competition and then led his teammates to an end-to-end clean up after all the festivities.
Thanks to our presenting sponsor, River Market; our long-time team sponsors, Key West Ford, La Perla Ballroom, The New Westminster Record and G&F Financial; and our Tailgate Auction organizing committee, event volunteers and auction Alumni, who all made such important contributions to New West's 'gala of the season'.

HYACKS VISIT NUMBER ONE RANKED
MT DOUGLAS

Following a loss to 3rd ranked Vancouver College last weekend, the Hyacks continue through the toughest portion of their schedule this Friday, as they take on Mt Douglas Secondary this Friday afternoon in Victoria. It was a tale of two halves on Saturday at O'Hagan field, as the Hyacks executed at a high level in the first half and led 21-14 late in the 2nd quarter. Jamie Shiho threw a pair of TD passes, one each to Justin Swartz and Michael Thind, while Josh Olango opened the scoring with a 5 yard run. Thind finished with 8 receptions and is now up to 31 on the season, good for 3rd in BC. The Hyacks rushed for over 200 yards, but unfortunately the offense dried up in the second half. Jeff Lugtu, Marcel Wang and Kevin Osea each finished with 8 tackles defensively, as the Hyacks record drops to 1-1.

The team will meet at Mercer Stadium at 9 am, with the bus leaving at 9:30 am. Expected return time at Mercer is 9:30 pm. All transportation will be provided.

JVs DEFEAT VAN COLLEGE

Sammy Sidhu returned to the lineup and scored a pair of TDs, pacing the Hyacks to a 36-24 win over Vancouver College. The team led 29-8 until the late stages of the 4th quarter, with Robertson Yagyog and Shane Belsher also scoring TDs. Yagyog finished the day with over 150 rushing yards. QB Kinsale Philip has now thrown at least 1 TD pass in the last 5 games. Defensively the coaches were very pleased with the tackling, with the likes of Lucas Sabau and Severio Asaba standing out. With the win, the Hyacks improved to 5-0 vs BC competition (2-0 in league play).

The JVs will also travel to Mt Douglas on Friday. The team will meet at Mercer Stadium at 7 am, with the bus leaving at 7:30 am. Expected return time at Mercer is 7:30 pm. All transportation will be provided.
