 HOMECOMING ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS

It was another fantastic night at Mercer Stadium as Homecoming 2015 presented by Key West Ford was a huge success. A crowd well in access of 2000 watched the Hyacks defeat GW Graham 21-10. The event also included the Save on Foods Family Fun Zone and Pre-game Party, along with the new FG Richards Sr Memorial tug-of-war competition, which was won by Team Labour. CTV Sports was also in attendance, hosting their sportcast live from Mercer Stadium.

And that was just the beginning: The game ball was again parachuted in by the BC Skydiving Team. At halftime, NWSS band turned into a marching band for a day, and did a fantastic job entertaining those in attendance. Debbie Cusker was this year's winner of a pre-owned Ford Focus in our raffle, courtesy of Key West Ford. And the night was topped off by a post-game fireworks show.

Hyacks Football would like to thank our presenting sponsor Key West Ford, along with media sponsors the New Westminster Record, CTV and Virgin Radio 94.5 FM, for their continued support of Homecoming. For a look at the day's activities, check out this photo album from The Record's Jennifer Gauthier here.

On the field the Hyacks raced out to a 21-3 halftime lead, thanks to touchdowns from Jordan Guzman, Trew Dancey and Gurvir Ghuman. Ghuman was named the Nike player of the game for his performance, which also included 7 tackles on defense. Sunny Rishi was named the lineman of the game. Other strong performances came from Jamie Shiho, Jeff Lugtu and Justin Schwartz. Rochon Bhattacharya put the game away with an impressive interception.

For a complete recap of last Friday's game and a look ahead to this week's action, please check out The Record. This weekend the Hyacks will have a much-needed bye, as they get set for the start of AAA Western Conference play on Oct 9th.

JVs WIN BIG...AGAIN

The JVs improved to 3-0 over BC competition this season with a 28-6 win over Lord Tweedsmuir at Mercer Stadium. Michael Zhang opened the scoring for the Hyacks with a 5 yard TD run, before Broxx Comia 25 yard TD gave the team a 14-0 halftime lead. Big Christian Roadilla lived the lineman's dream with a 2 yard TD run, then Robertson Yagyog rounded out the scoring on a 23 yard TD reception from Kinsale Philip.

This week the JVs originally scheduled game with Centennial has been cancelled. In its place, the Hyacks will host Terry Fox in a joint practice starting at 4:30 pm.

YOUTH FOOTBALL UPDATE

JR BANTAM
The Hyacks defeated the Richmond Raiders 54-8, to improve their record to 3-1. Strong performances came from Greyson Planinsic with 3 TDs, while Stewart Phillips, Payton Myers and Andros Dancey each scored one. QB Josh Baba threw for over 150 yds and 2 TDs, and also added a major along the ground. The D-line played hard with hits from Adrian Smith, Pavan Kainth and a fumble recovery from Jordan Freeland

PEE WEE
A newly re-energized pee wee team took to the field at South Delta. Despite the loss there were still plenty of positives. Jacob Maccumber and Eshan Barha connected on a pass & run that went for 85 yards, setting up the team's first TD. Maccumber scored the TD and later in the game intercepted a pass. Juan Vallee-Desjarlais also had a number of tough runs, behind a strong offensive line, led by Jordan Aeichele, Callum Rogers, and Nikolai Golovyak. The pee wees play next this Friday night at Mercer

ATOM
The Hyacks improved to 2-1-1 as they battled hard to earn a 14-14 tie against the White Rock Titans. Greg Palmer and Markus Savela each scored rushing touchdowns to finish off long offensive drives. But it was a Hyack defence that stood tall, stopping the Titans on 3rd down 3 separate times, leading to turnovers on downs.

TYKE FLAG

Grey - Defeated North Delta 19-12. Nathan Hillman scored a pair of TDs and showed good leadership all game, while Maxton Lowe grabbed a number of flags on defense.

Silver - Fought hard in a tight defensive battle with the Coquitlam Crushers. Marcus Kelsie scored a touchdown and a two point conversion on the last plays of the game to scrape out an 8-8 tie.

Black - Jake Gardiner scored twice, in a hard-fought 14-12 loss to North Delta. Jonah Merinuk was quick to flag after a surprising interception and Isaac Park enthusiastically double-flagged an opposing player.

Orange -Two touch downs by Luca Luongo were the highlights in the first road game of the season for the Orange squad. Justin Savoy and Noah Perera played great defensively.
