 HOMECOMING THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Everyone in the Royal City will be pulling together to celebrate our community as New Westminster "Unites Under the Lights" at Homecoming 2015. The whole community is invited to cheer on the Hyacks Varsity team as they take on G.W.Graham Grizzlies from Chilliwack, this Friday night, September 25 at Mercer Stadium.

The pre-game festivities start at 4:30 p.m. with the annual flag football challenge for Hyacks alumni. Family-fun starts at 5:00 p.m. and features on-field kids' activities like the bouncy castle and football toss. There's also a civic pride tug-of-war competition featuring teams from City Hall, School District #40 and elsewhere.
And of course, you could WIN a Ford Focus in a raffle, courtesy of Key West Ford.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. just after the game ball is parachuted onto the field by the B.C.Sky Diving Team. Fireworks are guaranteed on the field and after the game as well to cap the celebrations. And for the first time ever, the NWSS band will become a Marching Band, and play at halftime.

Hyacks Football thanks media sponsors the New Westminster Record, CTV and Virgin Radio 94.5 FM.

The varsity Hyacks are coming off a hard fought 39-25 loss to Terry Fox on Friday. New West trailed 17-0 in the first quarter, before coming back to pull to within 31-25 by the start of the fourth quarter. Jamie Shiho led the visitors with 88 yards rushing and 131 yards passing. He rushed for a TD and also threw one to Michael Thind. David Penalver and Marcel Wang also scored along the ground for the Hyacks. The JVs played their first home game of the season on Thursday and turned in a convincing performance, winning 42-8 over Robert Bateman. Sammy Sidhu scored the first 4 TDs of the game.
QB Kinsale Phillip found FB Michael Zhang for a TD, while Broxx Comia rounded out the scoring for the Hyacks. Every player in uniform played extensively.

This week the JVs will play their first BC AAA opponent of the season, as they host Lord Tweedsmuir on Thursday night at 5:30.

YOUTH FOOTBALL UPDATE

JR BANTAM
The JBs lost their first game of the season, to the Coquitlam Raiders on Friday night at Mercer Stadium. Despite the loss, newcomers Matthew Drake and Owen Stark both showed plenty of promise with some solid tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

ATOM
The Atom Hyacks bounced back with a 21-6 win over the Langley Broncos, thanks to a fired up special teams unit recovering two on-side kicks and blocking a PAT kick attempt. Highlighting a determined defense were two first year corners, Jaiden Grady & Jagger Saran, each recording tackles for losses and one turnover on downs.  Greg Palmer had another fantastic effort with two 40 plus yard runs for touchdowns & Jack Nyang punched in the third touchdown.  But the longest play from scrimmage went to Braiden Grant rumbling 50+ yards on third and short!

TYKE FLAG
Grey - The grey team remained unbeaten with a 14-0 win over White Rock. Elijah O'Neale and Kai Jang Read threw some nice passes and also played well on defense.

White - Despite a strong defensive effort, the white team fell 6-0 to Westside. EJ Hansraj seized numerous flags.

Silver - The silver team also dropped a close decision to Westside, 13-9. Marcus Kelcie grabbed plenty of flags and Dylan Jones came up with a crucial first down that kept a late drive going.

Orange - A great team effort in the rain & wind in a loss to North Delta. Luca Luongo, Justin Savoy and
Brody Busch were among those who stood out on defense with plenty of flags.

Black - 12-12 tie with South Delta. Benjamin Yu and Oliver Ramero scored TDs

MINI-TYKE FLAG
The mini-tykes played on Friday night at Mercer. Christhony Dela Cruz scored 3 times and Ethan Guo added a pair of TDs. Nickolas Weeks also scored twice for the black team. This is part of our house league with all the teams now a part of the Hyacks family.
