 HYACKS WIN BIG OVER CENTAURS

The varsity Hyacks picked up their first win of the season in their home opener, a 47-17 decision over Centennial. New West raced out to a 20-0 lead after the first quarter and 33-3 at halftime. RB Jordan Guzman and QB Jamie Shiho paced the way for the Hyacks offensively. Guzman finished with 126 yards and 3 TDs on 13 carries. Shiho rushed for 91 yards and 2 TDs, while completing 7 of 11 passes for 122 yards. Gurvir Ghuman and Trew Dancey rounded out the scoring for the Hyacks, who rushed for 361 yards as a team, using 9 different ball-carriers.

Defensively Ghuman stood out with 7 tackles. Shawn Dhanoa, Sebastian Ramirez, Liam Mackay and Dancey each added 3 tackles, while Kevin Osea recorded his first career interception. For a complete recap of last Friday's game and a look ahead to this week's action, please check out The Record.

Next up for the Hyacks are the Terry Fox Ravens this Friday night at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam. The Ravens are currently ranked 3rd in the provincial rankings while the Hyacks hold an honorable mention position. Following this game, the Hyacks will host the annual Homecoming game on Sept 25th.

JVs TO PLAY HOME OPENER ON THURS

Much like the varsity team, the JVs won their first game of the season last week in convincing fashion, defeating WJ Mouat 47-18. The JVs also jumped out to a 20-0 lead thanks to a strong performance from fullback Michael Zhang, who scored a pair of TDs and Sammy Sidhu who added a TD. Broxx Comia scored on a punt return, while Shane Belsher and Juan Cespedes rounded out the scoring for the Hyacks.

This week the JVs will play their first home game of the season, as they host Robert Bateman on Thursday night at 5:30. Last year the Timberwolves gave the Hyacks all they could handle, before New West came back to win 22-21 in the final minute.

YOUTH FOOTBALL UPDATE

JR BANTAM
The Jr Bantams turned in another lopsided victory, defeating the North Surrey Eagles 30-0. QB Josh Baba scored a pair of TDs while Stuart Phillips and Greyson Planinsic each added one. The Hyacks defense was dominant, with 3 sacks from Vishaan Narayan. Pavan Kaith, Sean Crowley, Andros Dancey and Ethan Ginogino also turned in strong performances. Next up the Hyacks host the Coquitlam Raiders on Friday night at Mercer.

PEE WEE
The PeeWee's played very well defensively, but weren't able to get the offensive going, eventually losing 14-0 to the Langley Cowboys. Jaxson Domville, Jordan Aeichele and Noah Faria had strong games on the defensive side of the ball.

ATOM
The Atoms lost their first game of the year, 30-14 against the North Delta Longhorns.  Greg Palmer's hard-nosed running led to a 52 yard touchdown run and Markus Savela scooped up his own team's fumble for the other score. On defense, Jack Nyang, Issac Shirshac and Andrew van den Driessen showed terrific speed, registering multiple tackles for losses and a sack.

TYKE-FLAG
All four flag teams that were in action on Sunday managed to win their games:
White - A nice interception by Amun Thiara in the second half was the momentum changer in an 18-13 win over Langley.
Silver - Mateo McDonell scored 3 TDs, while Marcus Kelsie and Emilio Locatelli stood out on defense, in a 19-12 win over North Delta.
Orange - A big 34-18 win over Richmond, highlighted by Jacob Armstrong's 2 TDs and the great defensive play of Alex Savoy.
Grey - Nathan Hillman scored on a TD reception and an interception return. JJ Charles-Davis was a "flagging machine" throughout the game, an 18-12 win over Westside.

The mini-tykes begin play this Friday night at Mercer at 6pm!
