GET WELL SOON COACH LESLIE

The entire Hyack Football family would like to wish Coach Ryan Leslie a speedy recovery following open heart surgery last week in Seattle, WA. He was discharged on Monday and returned home less than 4 days after the surgery, which went very well according to doctors.

FOUR HYACKS EARN PROVINCIAL ALL-STAR HONOURS

Congratulations to receiver Matt Seymour, O-lineman Harper Sherman, D-lineman Jorge Yarwood and linebacker Jeff Lugtu, who were all named to the AAA Provincial All-star team this week. The four all stars are the most NWSS has had in the same season since 2009.

Seymour finished 2nd in the province and set a school record with 42 receptions for 685 yards and 8 TDs. He also added 4 more TDs on rushes/returns and is among the top receiver/DB collegiate prospects in Canada.

Sherman becomes the 4th Hyack player to earn Provincial all-star honors in both Gr 11 and 12. He is the #1 ranked offensive linemen in Canada by CFC and Top Prospects and has accepted a full scholarship to the University of Arizona. Yarwood tied a school record with 8 sacks this season and his 62 tackles were among the top in BC this year by a lineman. Lugtu led the province with 91 tackles.

The All-star honors came three days after the varsity season came to an end on Friday, as the Hyacks lost 37-0 in the Provincial AAA Quarter finals against Terry Fox at Percy Perry Stadium. Despite a very good performance by the defensive front seven, the Hyacks could not overcome 4 fumbles, 3 of which led directly to TDs. Despite the loss it was a good season for the varsity team as they finished with a 7-4 record and were among the top ranked teams in the province all season. A complete recap of Friday's game can be found here

JVs UPSET IN QUARTER FINALS

Despite an amazing second half comeback by the Hyacks, the JV season ended prematurely on Thursday, following a 39-35 loss to Mt Boucherie in the AAA Quarter Finals at Mercer Stadium. The JVs trailed by 3 TDs twice in this contest, but came back to take a 35-32 lead with 2 minutes to play. Unfortunately the visitors were able to retake the lead for good with 20 seconds remaining.

Trew Dancey and Lucas Sabau each scored twice for New West, while Sammy Sidhu scored once and led the team in rushing. The loss ended an amazing year for the JVs, who were a perfect 10-0 (8-0 in conference play) during the regular season and won their first ever outright conference title. And with a large number of grade 9 starters on this team, plus a very good crop of Jr Bantam's moving up, 2015 should be even better. A complete recap of the game can be found here

HYACK CHEERLEADERS WIN GOLD AND SILVERS

At the 2014 VMFL Youth Cheer leading competition this past Saturday, our Hyacks Cheerleaders out did themselves with a solid presence with 8 teams performing. Through hard work and overcoming many challenges the Atom 5-man team won a gold medal with the Peewee 5-man stunts and Atom squad also bringing home silvers. Everyone is very proud of all the hard work and great routines.

Thank you to all the fans who came out and supported the teams.
