HYACKS WIN BIG IN OPENING ROUND OF PLAYOFFS - QUARTER FINALS THIS FRIDAY

The Hyacks turned in one of their most complete efforts of the season when it mattered most, as they defeated Mt Boucherie 40-7 on Friday night in the Wildcard playoffs at Mercer Stadium. Marcel Wang got the Hyacks on the board with a 7 yard TD run. Dylan Musgrove gave the team a lead they would never relinquish, hauling in a 35 yard TD reception from Jamie Shiho. Matt Seymour then scored 3 straight TDs, catching scoring passes from both Shiho and Mackenzie Ratcliffe, before scoring on a 98 yard run to put the game away in the 3rd quarter. Jordan Guzman rounded out the scoring for the Hyacks in the 4th quarter.

Defensively All-conference selections, Jeff Lugtu and Jorge Yarwood each recorded 9 tackles. The Hyacks also recorded 4 interceptions; two by Nick Hauka, one from David Haeber and one from Jonathan Tomalty, to go along with his 6 tackles. Friday's win was the first playoff win for the Hyacks since 2009, and improves the teams record to 7-3 on the season. Next up will be a quarter-final date with number-one ranked Terry Fox, this Friday, Nov 21st at 7:30 pm at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam.

JVs HOST QUARTER FINAL GAME ON THURSDAY

Following a well-earned bye in the opening round of the playoffs, the JV Hyacks will play host to Mt Boucherie on Thursday at Mercer Stadium at 5:30 pm. New West heads into the quarter final matchup with a 10-0 record against BC competition and a #3 seed in the post-season.

The Hyacks have been led for much of the season by the backfield of Trew Dancey, Josh Olango and Sammy Sidhu, while quarterback Lucas Sabau has been improving each week. Linemen such as Isaiah James, Yanni Angelopoulos and Garrett Gogal have been solid all season. Others such as Sarban Sidhu, and Paul & Christian Roadilla are now healthy and playing their best football at the most important time of the season. There have also been unsung players such as Harman Sandhu, Jasdeep Uppal, Liam Mackay and many others who have made valuable contributions all season and will be counted on in the playoffs.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Jr Bantam:

A memorable season came to an end on Sunday at Bear Creek Park in Surrey, as the Hyacks lost in the VMFL Championship game, 31-6 to North Surrey. The game was closer than the score indicated, as it was 17-6 with a minute remaining. Sean Crowley, Anekin Gladstone ,Darrio Cade Crouxifici Pelso and Paven Kainth played very well against a big, physical running back. Zackery "the leg" Northgraves finished the season as an outstanding kicker. Joseph Camillo ran 95 yards for the Hyacks only score of the day. The coaches would like to thank all of the volunteers, parents and the board for their support in what was the best JB result in the history of the program.

Pee Wee:

Peewee Hyacks came back from a disappointing regular season loss in week 11 versus South Delta to beat the same team, 34-18 in post-season play. Tied 12-12 at half, Hyacks mounted an impressive scoring drive on strong carries by Jordan Freeland and Nik Dukic. The Rams were consistently shutdown by the Hyacks defense. Luke Perizzolo had a great day with 2 successful PAT kicks and a defensive TD. Colin Van Den Driesen had an outstanding 40 yard reception and run to keep a Hyacks offense drive alive. The Hyacks will wrap up the season this Friday night at Mercer in the Commissioners Cup final.
