HYACKS TO HOST PLAYOFF GAME THIS FRIDAY

Following a bye this past week, the Hyacks get set to host a playoff game for the 2nd straight year, as Mt Boucherie Secondary from Kelowna will visit Mercer Stadium for a wildcard playoff game on Friday, Nov 14th at 7:30 pm. The Hyacks will be looking for their first playoff win since 2009, following last year wildcard round loss to Centennial. New West won it's only two previous meetings against Mt Boucherie, 36-33 in 2012 in Kelowna and 27-9 in 2011 at Mercer Stadium on Homecoming.

The Hyacks enter the playoffs as the #4 seed in the Western Conference, with a 6-3 overall record (4-3 in league play). Mt Boucherie is the #5 seed in the East. The winner will face number one ranked Terry Fox the following week. Kickoff time this Friday is 7:30 pm at Mercer Stadium. A complete game preview can be found here
This game will be the provincial game of the week and will be broadcast live here.

Linebacker Jeff Lugtu and kicker Wayne Palmer were also selected. Also receiving votes was Ebrahiem Farroghi.

Matt Seymour

Harper's 2nd all conference
selection. He is the #1 ranked offensive linemen in Canada by CFC and Top Prospects and has accepted a full scholarship to the University of Arizona.

Jorge Yarwood (DL): His 41 tackles and 7 sacks were among the top in BC this year by a lineman

JVs WIN FINAL TUNE-UP PRIOR TO PLAYOFFS

The JVs played one final tune up prior to the playoffs last Thursday at Mercer Stadium, defeating Notre Dame 26-24. Both teams played their starters in the first half, where Josh Olango scored twice and Trew Dancey and Lucas Sabau each scored once, to put the Hyacks up 26-6 at halftime. Linemen Yanni Angelopolous & Isaiah James also stood out on both sides of the ball.

In the 2nd half the teams played the rest of their rosters, and a number of players took advantage of the opportunity for additional playing time. Linebacker Nick McDermid made 4 tackles, including a tackle for a loss on a 2-point conversion that preserved the Hyacks lead. Robertson Yagyog ended the Jugglers comeback attempt with an interception in the final minute.

This was a battle of 2 of the top 3 ranked teams in BC. Notre Dame is the 2nd seed, New West is the 3rd seed, among the 12-teams in the provincial playoffs. Both teams have earned a bye in the opening round this week and could potentially meet again in the semi-finals. A complete recap of Thursday's game can be found here.

JVs finished the regular season with a 10-0 record against BC teams and will play their quarter-final playoff game on Thurs, Nov 20th at Mercer Stadium at 5:30 pm, against the winner of the Mt Boucherie/Centennial wildcard game.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Jr Bantam:

The Jr Bantams turned in one of the most thrilling come from behind victories in the history of Hyack Football on Friday at North Delta, winning 18-14, in the VMFL semi-finals. Trailing 14-2 with 66 seconds remaining in the game, Jevaun Jacobsen threw a 30 yard touchdown pass to Broxx Comia. The defense then forced a 3-and-out, led by Shaye Rathje ,Kinsale Philip, Jewel Wong, Evan Nolli, Joseph Camillo and Ian Marin. On the Hyacks final drive, on 3rd and long, Jacobsen hit Mayen Gor in the endzone for the game winning TD with 26 seconds left. It was a hard fought battle that took 30 kids to make happen, and the JBs will be looking for a similar effort next Sunday in the VMFL Championship game at North Surrey.

Pee Wee:

The pee wee team lost to South Delta 23-14 in a back and forth game, to close out their regular season. Tico Almeida Lee and Austin Tustin stood out on defense. The pee wee's will now take part in the Presidents Cup semi-finals next Saturday at Mercer Stadium.

Atom:

The Atoms lost to Cloverdale in the VMFL quarter finals. Congratulations to the players on a very good season that saw them improve every week. Special thanks to Adrian Smith and the rest of the coaching staff for all of their efforts in 2014.

FLAG:

All 3 Hyack Flag teams took part in the VMFL wrap up tournament on Saturday at Mackin Park.

Team Orange played in a very competitive bracket, and while they didn't win a game, they did manage to be competitive in all 3 games. Lukas Lalji scored a pair of TDs while Marcus Kelsie added one. Lado John and Cooper Smith also pulled down some good flags.

Special thanks to the coaches for all of their efforts this season and for our division manager, Jill Smith, for keeping it all together. The Tyke division wrap up party will be held this Sunday, Nov 16th at noon. It will start with pizza at the Massey Cafeteria at NWSS, followed by ice skating at Moody Park Arena. Skating and skate rentals (if needed) for players and a parent is included. Please bring your clean game pants. The jerseys are yours to keep.
