 TAILGATE AUCTION ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS

The 12th annual Hyack Football Tailgate Auction was a terrific success, raising over $20,000 for NWSS Hyack Football and the Royal City Hyack Football Club. More than 160 people sat down to dinner at La Perla Ballroom, including Hyack players and managers, while dozens of Hyack supporters bid on more than 100 live and silent auction items. Guests also enjoyed a Best of New West reception, featuring appetizers by River Market merchants and wines by New Westminster winery Pacific Breeze. The fabulous Los Castores Mariachi band set the tone of the night with their lively music and emcee Bob Marjanovich from Team 1040 and auctioneer Josh Neilsen from ADESA got the crowd into a festive spirit.

Our very own Mary-Beth Philip won two of six raffle prizes, taking home a plush down jacket from Flash Geo Down Clothing and a cruise donated by Odenza Marketing Group. As well, one of the key auction's volunteers, Rachel Champagne, bid and won the trip to Maui that was donated by Brent Atkinson and Westland Insurance. Adam Isfeld of Key West Ford, Dave Vallee and the G&F Financial crew were among the active bidders in the live auction. In all it was a great night! Thanks to all the hard-working volunteers, led by Diane Strandberg and Nancy O'Connor, who made this event happen.

VARSITY HYACKS OFF TO VICTORIA THIS FRIDAY

The Hyacks will get on a ferry, then hope to get back on the winning track this Friday, when they take on Belmont Secondary at Westhills Stadium in Langford. The team will depart NWSS at 11 am. The Hyacks defeated the Bulldogs 35-13 last season at Mercer Stadium.

New West comes into this game with a 5-2 overall record (3-2 in conference play) after their 31-6 home loss last Friday night against VC. Jamie Shiho scored the lone Hyacks TD on a 17 yard run. Jeff Lugtu recorded 11 tackles on defense while Ebrahiem Farroghi and Jorge Yarwood each had 7. A complete recap of Friday's game can be found here.

JVs IMPROVE TO 7-0

The JV Hyacks remained unbeaten against BC opposition this season, following a 34-15 win over Mission on Thursday. Trew Dancey scored 3 TDs, all in the first half, on runs of 48, 15 and 80 yards. He finished with over 200 yards on the ground. Josh Olango and Sammy Sidhu scored the other Hyacks TDs, with Olango rushing for over 150 yards.

The JVs are now 7-0 (6-0 in conference play) and will travel to Abbotsford this Thursday to take on Robert Bateman secondary in a 3:30 pm kickoff. The team will wrap up the regular season the following Thursday, Oct 30th at home against Lord Tweedsmuir, in a game that will decide the JV Eastern Conference championship.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Jr Bantam:

The JBs overpowered Langley 54-6. Broxx Comia scored 3 touchdowns, followed by singles from Ethan Shuen, Kinsale Philip, Mayen Gor and Arjun Bal who caught at 40 yard TD throw by Jevaun Jacobsen. Crouxifici Pelso and Vincenzo Nardulli had strong games on defense.

The team also took part in a halftime scrimmage at the SFU football game on Saturday at Swangard Stadium (picture below).

Pee Wee:

The Peewee Hyacks were edged by North Surrey, 14-6 in a nail-bitter. Matteo Fernandes and Nik Dukic made several tackles for big plays on defense, including more than one goal-line stand at the 1 yard line. On offense, Tremaine Smith and Mike Jenvey provided solid blocking, especially on the lone Hyacks scoring drive.

Atom:

The Hyacks fell 44-16 to the Coquitlam Tigers. Maxim Butkovskiy went 2 for 2 on his PATs and Andrew van den Driesen and Markus Savela played well on both sides of the ball.

FLAG:

Hyacks Orange: Defeated North Surrey Firebirds 18-12. Marcus Kelsey, Jeevyn Rattan and Nathan Hillman scored for the Hyacks. Nathan and Jeevyn also stood out defensively. Cooper Smith and Lukas Lalji each had touchdown saving flags. Ethan Duffy also did a great job as QB for the first time in a game.

Hyack Black: Fell 26-14 to North Surrey Ravens. Evan Charlish capped off the game with a spectacular long run on the 2nd to last play, with Willy Rerup converting the touchdown. Lucas Ramsey had a strong game at QB, while Jagger Saran and Evan lead the defense with many flags.

Hyacks White: Consistent quarterbacking from Jaxson Balint, touchdowns made by Tyson McGettigan and Sebastian Sanchez, in a 3 point loss to White Rock
