HYACKS HOME OPENER - THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Friday night football returns to Mercer Stadium this weekend, as the WJ Mouat Hawks visit the Royal City. The Hyacks are coming off a hard-fought 11-6 win over Centennial last Friday night at Percy Perry Stadium. Following a safety, Wayne Palmer gave the Hyacks a 5-0 lead with his 3rd field goal of the season. In the 3rd quarter Ebraheim Farroghi blocked a punt deep in Centaurs territory, setting up Jordan Guzman's first varsity TD, and giving New West the win. Julian Ramirez led all Hyack rushers with 74 yards on 11 carries, while Matt Seymour caught three passes for 72 yards. More details on the game can be found in The Record

The Hawks meanwhile are a perennial power in BC and are coming off a lopsided 46-13 win over Robert Bateman last Friday night. Friday nights at Mercer are always a special time for the community, and with only 3 night games at home this season, we are looking forward to a very good atmosphere for a game that is being showcased as the Provincial Game of the Week. The game broadcast can be seen here.

JVs BACK AT HOME THIS THURSDAY

For the 2nd straight week the JVs have had their game moved to Mercer Stadium. Samuel Robertson Tech (SRT) will provide the opposition this Thursday night at 5:30 pm in what will be the first league game for both teams. The Hyacks are coming off a 28-12 win over Pitt Meadows last week. Connor Pattison, Sammy Sidhu, Trew Dancey and Alan Darby all scored for New West.

HOMECOMING-HOW THE WEST WAS WON

The tenth edition of this community classic has a western theme -- the Hyacks Varsity team has a showdown with Western Conference rival West Vancouver Highlanders at Mercer Stadium September 19.

Make sure to check out the Facebook page Here

Along with the showdown, there's a Hyack Hoedown, with family-fun that features skydivers, fireworks, a prize car, on-field kids' activities, a pre-game flag football challenge for alumni and a Texas barbeque.

"This is more than just a football game - it's a celebration of our community."

The 2014 festivities get under way at 4:30 p.m. with the ever-popular Alumni Touch Football Game, Hyack Hoedown family activities 5-7 p.m. followed by the Alumni Reception and Dinner on field.  Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. after the game ball is parachuted onto the field by the BC Sky Diving Team.

Half-time highlights include a performance by the up-and-coming band Derrival, who were a hit at last year's the Squamish Valley Music Festival, and a post-game fireworks show.

Key West Ford, the presenting sponsor for the Homecoming Game, is providing a prize car for the event. CTV, the Beat 95 and the Royal City Record have come on board as media sponsors.
