HYACKS HOST PLAYOFF GAME THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

It will be a Homecoming sequel (minus the football field bouncy castle) on Friday night, when the Hyacks play host to the Centennial Centaurs for the 2nd time this season at Mercer Stadium. The Hyacks won the first meeting 44-22, but the stakes will be much higher this time around.

New West comes into the game following a thrilling, but heartbreaking, 24-21 loss last Friday to Handsworth. Tyrone Morgan rushed for 148 yards and 2 TDs on 19 carries, while Angelo Tanjuaquio had 124 yards and a TD on 17 carries in that contest. Back in September, Tanjuaquio accounted for 18 points (2 TDs & 3 2-pt converts) and Julian Ramirez rushed for 95 yards and a TD.

The Hyacks enter the playoffs as the #4 seed in the Western Conference, with a 6-3 overall record (3-3 in league play) and 5-1 at Mercer Stadium. Centennial is the #5 seed in the East. The winner will face 2nd ranked Terry Fox the following week. Kickoff time this Friday is 7:30 pm at Mercer Stadium. The game will also be broadcast live here.

The complete story from Friday's game can be found in The Record

CONGRATS TO HYACK ALL-STARS

Three more Hyacks were selected as AAA Western Conference All-stars, following their outstanding play this season: Receiver Tristan Sands along with D-lineman Billy Collins and O-lineman Harper Sherman. Also receiving votes were Angelo Tanjuaquio, Matt Seymour, James Nicolas & Jeremy Stewart.

JV'S OPEN PLAYOFFS IN KELOWNA THIS SATURDAY

The JV Hyacks open the playoffs following a 37-14 win in the regular season finale over Holy Cross on Thursday. Jeff Lugtu caught a pair of TD passes from Jamie Shiho, David Penalver and Noah Wright scored on TD runs, while Shiho added a major on a QB sneak. The Hyacks will head into the playoffs with a 7-2 record (5-1 in league play) and will play at the Capital News Center against Kelowna Secondary.

Parents are asked to make sure their sons arrive at the stadium no later than 8:30 with a bag for all of their equipment. A bagged lunch is also needed. Game time at the CNC is 3:30 pm. The team is expected to return home at approximately 11 pm, via charter bus.

YOUTH FOOTBALL UPDATE

Atoms Hyacks clinched a playoff berth with a 36-22 win over Langley Broncos. Jaxson Domville ran for over 100 yards and a TD. Denis Glavas scored his 1st TD of the year along with a successful PAT. Darius Louis-Charles scored his 1st TD on the teams 1st kick return TD. Lucas Steele made a game pivotal defensive block on a Bronco passing play. Dyson Glavas opened up huge holes for his teammates, while Justin Jiminez recovered a kickoff.

The mini-tyke flag wrapped up their season 2 weeks ago, but you can watch them perform this Thursday, as they are featured in "Perry's Prospects" on CTV News at 6 & 11:30 pm.
