HYACKS PLAY FOR KUSHNIR BOOT THIS THURSDAY NIGHT

It will be the earliest home game in the history of the Hyacks program, as the Varsity team opens the season against South Delta on Thursday, Aug 29th at 7:30 pm at Mercer Stadium. The game will be played in honor of the late Bill Kushnir, who founded both the Hyacks and Sun Devils programs.

The last meeting between the two programs came in 2011, with New West winning 16-9. South Delta was the Provincial AA Champions last season, posting a perfect 12-0 record.

PROMISING START TO FALL CAMP FOR HYACKS

The Hyacks have wrapped up a very encouraging first week of fall camp, with over 80 players taking part in practices. Despite a stomach virus that hit a dozen members of the team for a couple of days, there were some very good performances. Offensively TEs Stewart Sommerfeld and Bogdan Pavel caught TD passes in the practice with Rick Hansen on Friday, while RBs Angelo Tanjuaquio and Tyrone Morgan had some long runs. Throughout the week, Harper Sherman has been dominant along both offensive lines and Kaeden Hnatiw has also shown improvement, and defensively, linebacker James Nicolas has been all over the field.

For the JV's Jeff Lugtu and Sunny Rishi spent most of the week practicing with the varsity and more than held their own. Marcel Wang appears to be recovering well from an off-season wrist injury. It will be a crowded and talented backfield for the JVs this season, as Lugtu and Wang will be joined by Adrian and Brian Cagampan, David Penalver, and newcomer Jordan Guzman who has impressed. Other newcomers who stood out last week are Dillan Cusker, Josh Nerona and Connor Pattison.

YOUTH FOOTBALL UNDERWAY

The preseason for the youth Hyacks wrapped up this past weekend. All teams participated in three tournaments, and competed well. The Jr Bantams will field two teams this fall; the Orange (12-man) team placed second at North Delta's Bronze Boot with a 2-1 record, while the Black (11-man) team dominated their Jamboree on Saturday at Mercer Stadium, winning both games.

The Tyke flag team won North Surrey Bronze Boot tournament. The last Hyacks to do this was the 2010 tykes, who went undefeated that year. The Peewee team placed 3rd at North Delta Sungod tournament, while the Atoms placed 2nd at the Bronze Boot. The new mini-tyke flag program (ages 5-6) also began practices 2 weeks ago and has 30 players participating

Overall, all of our teams are expecting to be very competitive this season. This season will see the highest number of children playing and cheering in our program ever. In all, the Royal City Hyacks program continues to be BC's fastest growing football club, thanks in large part to the outstanding community support, positive word-of-mouth and focus on making all aspects of the program great for all of the children involved.

Also congratulations to the seven junior bantam Hyacks have been named to the cut-down rosters for the 2013 provincial U13 and U14 teams. These players are among the top 50 in BC at those age groups who will compete for a spot on the final roster for the teams representing BC in the FBU regional and national championship tournaments in the upcoming winter. Sammy Sidhu, Paul Roadilla and Christian Roadilla are on the U14 roster, and Jerrell Cummings, Teon Alexander, Jevaun Jacobsen, and Malcolm James are on the U13 roster. RCHFC Head Coach Ryan Leslie will also be serving as the offensive line coach of the U14 team.
