 SPRING CAMP RESULTS ENCOURAGING

Both NWSS teams finished spring camp with large numbers and strong performances. Over 90 players took part in spring camp in May and June, and left the coaches optimistic about the fall season.

VARSITY:

The Varsity team got better throughout their 10 practices and turned in a solid effort in the spring game in Blaine on June 8th. Tommy Robertson, Jeff Lugtu and Adrian Cagampan scored rushing TDs. Seven different receivers caught at least one pass, led by Stewart Sommerfeld who caught 3 for 104 yards. Defensively the D-line led by Billy Collins & Harper Sherman was very strong, while James Nicolas finished with 5 tackles.

JVs:

Coming off an 8-2 season in 2012, the JVs are expecting big things this season. In the wrap up Jamboree held at Mercer Stadium, Marcel Wang, Brian Cagampan and Jamie Shiho were among those who scored. Daniel Johnson led a group of new, talented receivers, while Sunny Rishi, Declan Baker and James Cunningham stood out on both lines.

SUMMER SCHEDULE

OREGON TEAM CAMP

From July 4-8 the Hyacks will be back on the Oregon coast for Team Camp. The camp takes place at Camp Rilea Army Reserve Base in Warrenton, OR. Fifty-two players (Varsity and JV) will take part in practices and scrimmages against American schools. Everyone selected should have received an emailed registration form and checklist of what to bring. If you have not received it please check the website at: www.hyackfootball.com.

The registration fee for the camp (which includes housing and food during camp) will again be taken care of by our gracious sponsor, Ryan Beedie (thanks Ryan!). Players will however need to pay $100 for transportation (which can be done online) and bring some money for food on the way down and back ($40-50 US).

If they haven't already done so, please make sure the players have their completed registration forms turned in and have proof of citizenship with them when the team leaves. Departure time is 9:30 am on Monday, July 4th from Mercer Stadium. Players should arrive by 9 am.

We would encourage all Hyack families to make the trip to the Oregon Coast for a football-style summer vacation! The camp will be held 5 miles south of Astoria, OR. For more information on the area, including accommodations: http://www.astoria-usa.com/

MVP TEAM CAMP

The Hyacks will also be hosting the 2nd annual MVP Team Camp, June 27-29 at NWSS. Teams from across BC and Washington will take part. All NWSS players are able to take part in the morning sessions at 9:30 am. We will be asking for volunteers to assist with this event.

JULY & AUGUST

Following team camp, for the balance of the summer, the weight room will be open Mondays (2 to 3:30 pm) and Thursdays (11 am to 1:30 pm). There will also be speed/agility training on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 pm. Cost for the speed training is $100 and can be paid online at www.hyackfootball.com.

Fall camp begins on Sunday, Aug 18th with speed and fitness testing. The first practice is Aug 19th. Fall camp is mandatory and we expect that all players will be back from vacation and rearrange their work schedules in time to take part. The complete summer schedule can be found here.
