 EmilyEMILY'S MESSAGE
When your teenager was a toddler, it was sweet to see them clasp their little hands as they whispered prayers to our Heavenly Father. But sometimes those very same hands are clenched in fists that are shaken at a seemingly distant God. Before we start this process of teaching our teens how to pray, let me encourage you to look at your own prayer life and ask yourself this question: "Do I really believe God not only hears me but also cares enough to answer?" First do no harm. Approaching one of the first struggles in a close family relationship, I repeated that sentence over and over to myself as I wrote down in an email what I wanted to say. It took me a few times to put everything I wanted into the email. All the feelings that I wanted to express, the concern I had, the love I felt. Reading it over, I shut my laptop in anger.

A few hours later, as I read my draft over again, the same sentence repeated in my head. I deleted an entire paragraph realizing the harm it could send. I prayed to God on guidance on what to say, how to express myself in a kind and authoritative way. These are the moments when God speaks to me most; when he helps me, holds my hand and gives me guidance.
