Waltham Day 2014

Dear Parents and Studio Dancers,
Is it really October already? The month of September has passed by quickly as dancers have settled into their school and dance schedules. I cannot express enough how grateful I am that you are a part of our SBS family. Thank you for your patience during the last three weeks as we have had to shift class times and schedules because of class size enrollment.
The classrooms are filled with excitement and energy! Many students and their parents have already approached me and asked if I have decided on the theme of this season's recital. I think everyone's anxious to perform! While our 19th year recital theme remains TOP SECRET until January 1st, we have included the dates of our show in this newsletter. Please jot down these important dates to avoid any disappointment or scheduling conflicts. We have however selected a charity and will be hosting a fundraiser in January giving a handful of SBS classes a second opportunity to perform this season. The success of our winter shows has gained much recognition through the years and our dancers have raised thousands of dollars for many local charities. Details are provided below.
You are receiving our first newsletter of the dance season through our Constant Contact email marketing software. We use this software to send newsletters and information to reach a large population of our customers at one time. Emails regarding class cancellations, changes and billing are sent through our JackRabbit Dance online software program. We hope you will take advantage of one feature of this software by accessing our website at www.stepbystepinc.com and logging into the Parent Portal to view tuition statements and pay your child's dance tuition online.
On the right of this newsletter is a quick reference of upcoming happenings at our studio. You can also access this link on our home page through our website at www.stepbystepinc.com.
For questions about your child's dance program please contact us at office@stepbystepinc.com or call 781-891-5678.
Miss Pam

Waltham Day & FLASHMOB Success!
Special thanks to our SBS dancers who performed beautifully at Waltham Day, on Saturday September 20th and the many studio families who came out to support us. It always amazes me at the large crowd you attract with your glamorous costumes, infectious smiles and talented dancing. Thank you NSDC students and their families who volunteered hours working our studio table at the event greeting prospective new clients and their help in selling 50/50 Raffle tickets to help raise money for Autism Awareness. You're all amazing!
I'd also like to thank school committee members John Farassica, Kaytie Dowcette and Waltham's mayor Jeannette McCarthy for participating in our 1st studio FLASHMOB which also took place on the grounds of Waltham's common during Waltham Day. What a treat it was to share the stage with my talented dancers, their parents and local officials. Dancing brings community together!

Do You Know The Anastasi Family?
Well neither did we until they were brought to our attention! Our studio has decided to fundraise for The Autism Alliance of MetroWest after meeting Michael and Sandra Anastasi of Framingham, MA (Michael is not pictured above).
The Anastasi's have three children, two on the Autism spectrum; Jenna (10) and Michael (8). Jenna has been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. She is non-verbal and just began to learn to walk two years ago. Their son Michael is austistic. There story touched our hearts on so many levels we decided to team up with the Anastasi family and help build awareness for Autism. The Autism Alliance of MetroWest a program of Advocates, Inc is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization helps provide grant funding to as many families in the local area to assist with their vital needs. Their program helped the Anastasi family understand that they are not alone. The Autism Alliance of MetroWest also helps in providing family programming so that their kids can safely play, dance and explore the enviroment without worries or judgement that their children are "different". To learn more about the Autism Alliance of MetroWest, please visit www.autismalliance.org.
It is with great pride that I announce Step-By-Step Dance Studio's 9th Winter Performance "Mystique" presented as a Winter Gala Benefit for The Autism Alliance of MetroWest. Our dancers are joining forces with The Anatasi family, professional local performers in a fundraising initiative designed for those who understand the power of dance and it's positive effects in healing the soul. Our studio goal is to raise $20,000 culminating with our Winter Performance on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the American Legion Post 440 in Newton. We hope that this early notification will allow you to mark your calendars and reserve the date!

Throughout the next several months our studio will be busy in our ongoing efforts to raise $20,000 for The Autism Alliance of MetroWest in honor of The Anastasi Family. Information is forthcoming on how you can help and win $1,000 cash prize for yourself! Our studio is planning to host a Dance-a-thon this season, collect classroom basket donations, sell 50/50 raffle tickets and raffle off FREE dance tuition for next season. If you or someone you know has a business and is willing to make a monetary contribution or purchase a business ad to be featured in our Winter Performance Program please let us know. Families can also help by volunteering their time during any of our efforts to raise money for The Autism Alliance of MetroWest. Volunteering is also a great way to fill community service hours for older students who have to meet these requirements for school and religious organizations.

Our Studio is Collecting medium to large gently used baskets. We plan to create our classroom baskets for our fundraiser. If any family has baskets lying around the house that will not be used we would gladly accept them. Color doesn't matter!
