Built Green Conference Preview

Are you excited about September 13? You should be. The annual Built Green Conference, held this year at Bothell's Cascadia College, is where innovation happens. It's where education is prevalent. Where the best minds of our region, and beyond, get together to push the building industry barometer further forward.

The only question is, will you be a part of it all?

About the Conference
The Built Green Conference has been occurring annually for a decade with the aim of providing valuable, cutting-edge information on green building and sustainability. Past keynote speakers include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., David Orr, and Denis Hayes. This year's conference will cover a variety of topics related to green building, ranging from building science to policy, from finance to post-occupancy research, and from case studies to equity and community issues. This content will be covered throughout the day, which will include a keynote address, a variety of sessions to choose from, lunch, and a book signing, all followed by an awards ceremony and reception. We're looking forward to seeing you on this fun and educational day!

Conference Keynote Hunter Lovins

Hunter Lovins
Renowned author and champion of sustainable development Hunter Lovins will set the stage as keynote speaker. Hunter is the president and founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions and has consulted on sustainable agriculture, energy, water, security, and climate policies for scores of governments, communities, and companies worldwide. She has co-authored fifteen books and hundreds of articles, and is featured in the award-winning film "Lovins on the Soft Path." Hunter has been honored with numerous recognitions such as the Right Livelihood Award (known as the Alternative Nobel), Leadership in Business award, Rachel Carson Award, and European Sustainability Pioneer award. Time Magazine recognized her as a Millennium Hero for the Planet, and Newsweek called her a "green business icon." Hunter was very well-received as keynote of the 2007 Built Green Conference, and we are thrilled to hear what she has to say after almost a decade of more work and adventures, including participation in the Paris Climate Conference last year.

Built Green Conference - News Alert!

It's six days away! The event preview above hopefully was enough to get you excited. But... there's more! At the conference, we will be announcing the results of our soon-to-be-published study on how the electricity consumption of Built Green homes compares with non-Built Green homes in Seattle. To our knowledge, this is the largest study of its kind and can have huge ramifications for the program and the entire industry. Don't miss out on being the first to hear the news! We've put a lot of work into this year's event, and we're really looking forward to sharing it with you. See you there!

WaterSense New Homes Incentive Update
Built Green and Cascade Water Alliance are still offering the WaterSense New Homes Incentive Program in 2016! In fact, we have expanded the $1,000 per unit offering to reward both multifamily and single-family projects. For more information on the incentive, and to see how you may be able to receive a rebate for building sustainably in Cascade's water service territory, click here.

Seattle City Light Built Green Incentive
Great news for builders! Seattle City Light (SCL) is offering an incentive to builders with projects of five or more units in SCL territory. Projects that use ductless heat pumps as the primary heat source and achieve Built Green 4- or 5-Star certification can receive $1,500 per unit! For more information on this opportunity, please contact Heather Eklund at Seattle City Light.
See you at the Home Efficiency Forum, EEBA, and BECC!

At EEBA and BECC, Aaron will be presenting on zHome's net zero energy success as well as giving a brief overview of our significant forthcoming study on how much electricity Built Green homes actually use. Over at the Home Efficiency Forum, Leah will give an in-depth presentation on our upcoming study as well as participate on a panel of green building certification program managers. Say hi to us if you're there!
