News from the Emporia Farmers Market

August - September 2015

Volume 9, Number 7

Believe it or not, we are approaching the time of year when I start thinking about bringing a sweater to Saturday morning markets. Haven't need

ed it yet (I have needed my rain jacket), but there is definitely the feeling of change in the air.

We had such a wonderful Homegrown Celebration -- a little early this year -- but a fun event with a great turnout. Please take a moment to thank the team at ESB Financial for all their work. They are pros at this watermelon gig, as are so many kids who came out for rolling, seed spitting and eating events!

Thanks also to KVOE, Emporia Main Street, the Emporia Chamber, and the Emporia Arts Center for support of this event.

We've also wrapped up the Murphy's Menu Cook-Offs for the season. Thank you to Regina Murphy and the Emporia Gazette for adding this bit of fun to our season. You can review the winners for the season at the above link, as well as find recipes from the Gazette website for all of the great entries. If you have ideas for contest categories in 2016, drop me an email and we will add them to our list of possibilities.

If you are in town on Labor Day Weekend, plan to bring your friends and family to the market to join us for "College Day". We looking forward to a musical selection by students at the market, starting at 8:30 going until 9:30 or 10, and will be serving the "new" market breakfast burrito. It's a slightly different recipe, but the same great market products you've come to expect. Friends of the Market will be selling sausage, ham and vegetarian varieties for $4 each.

Remember to keep markets in the parking lot on your calendar through the end of October. We will be there every Wednesday starting at 5pm, and every Saturday starting at 8am.

See you at the market!

Tracy

The Emporia Farmers Market fulfills a central role in the community's grand equation, offering a place of fellowship throughout the year, moving produce, producer, and consumer closer to a kindred realm, bridging lives with local growth, local arts, local writers and musicians, creating rhythms of seasons and relationship so well maintained as to seem always new and continuing together.
