October 2014

Volume 8, Number 9

We have 5 Wednesday markets and 4 Saturday markets to go. That's 9 opportunities to shop with your neighbors and friends at the Emporia Farmers Market. Get out and enjoy some of this fine fall weather. Vendor tables are still loaded with wonderful produce, baked goods, and we have some fun and unique craft items and original artwork, as well.

Looking ahead, we look forward to our move indoors to the Emporia Humanitarian Center in November. We will continue to bring you Indoor Winter Markets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month.

We are also looking ahead and planning for everyone's favorite Soup-A-Palooza. You've already got your calendar marked for November 4. (Election Day!) Plan to stay out of the kitchen that day, as well. Let your friends from the Emporia Farmers Market do the cooking. We will be serving at the Lyon County Extension office through lunch and dinner. Watch our website for details.

See you at the market!

The course will provide a question and answer period to facilitate student learning.Saturday features a tour of several local hoop houses within the Emporia area, including school hoop houses, homeowner constructed hoop house designs, and commercial high tunnels.  A map will be provided and participants will need to provide their own transportation.  We will caravan to these sites.  All high tunnels are within approximately 5 miles of Emporia.  John Crisp is the owner of Shepherd's Valley CSA farm near Americus, and has been instrumental in helping several area growers with hoop house construction and growing tips.
