| Melted crayon ornaments are one of the items that will be for sale at Saturday's Indoor Winter Market. |
First, thanks to everyone who stuck it out with us in the parking lot through the month of October. The weather was actually fairly mild for the month, but it seemed the coldest (and the wettest) days always fell on market days. Toward the end of the month we started collecting entries for a market money give-away. I want to congratulate the winners who were drawn at the first indoor winter market in November; $20 Winner - Tom Haskett, $10 Winner - Barbara Weaver, $5 Winner - Carla Davis, $5 Winner - Joleen Bolinger.
As of this email, we are on the countdown for four remaining markets in 2013. I hope you join us this Saturday, from 10am till noon, at the Emporia Humanitarian Center. We will also have two markets in December, the first and third Saturdays, and a bonus market at the downtown Midnight Madness event on Thursday, December 12. For that event we will be located at 701 Commercial. If you are a craftsman or artist who would like to participate in our December Markets and Holiday Bazaar, please contact me ASAP. More information appears below in this newsletter.
Think of the market as the place to shop for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts and let us help you set your table with fresh and local baked goods, as well as produce.
See you at the market!

Enter for a Chance to Win the Farmers Market Wood Spirit On December 21, the Emporia Farmers Market will draw to give away a very special wood carving by local artist, Millard Harrell. Enter to win at the market or at Town Crier Bookstore (February 18 - 30). Entries will also be accepted at the market office, 701 Commercial, Suite 202, on weekdays between the hours of 8am and noon. Suggested donation $2 per entry or $5 for 3 entries. All proceeds go to Emporia Farmers Market outreach and educational programs.
"I had seen it for weeks as I walked by the parking lot where the Farmers Market is held. It was an odd looking piece of wood that had probably been used to block a wheel of a trailer or used for some other common need at the Farmers Market. I tried to ignore it each day as I would pass by but I couldn't help myself from visualizing a face carved in this old chunk of wood. It was dirty and sandy and I had my work clothes on, a white shirt that day with a tie, so I resisted the urge to pick it up and examine it further. And that was my relationship with this old chunk of wood for days." Read the story of the Farmers Market Wood Spirit at Millard's blog, Foundwood Carvings.

Soup-A-Palooza a Super Success
Thank you to all who joined the Friends of the Emporia Farmers Market on November 5 for our Soup-A-Palooza fundraiser. It was perfect soup weather and we were amazed by the response! By day's end we had gone through more than 8 roasters of soup, raising more than $1,200 for the market. For those who missed it, here is Amy Jordan's Hearty Potato Soup recipe. It was very popular, indeed!
1 pound sausage, cooled & drained
2 pounds hash browns
1 chopped onion
3/4 cup thinly sliced carrots
3/4 cup thinly sliced celery
3 cans chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 oz. cream cheese
mix together in crock pot
cook on low 6 hours
thin with milk if needed
can substitute bacon for sausage
