Greetings!
I hope you plan to join us for our biscuits & gravy fundraiser this Saturday at the market. We'll have a few tables and chairs so you can sit and enjoy breakfast while you listen to Jane and Bill sing and play.
We are hard at work on the market calendar for 2013. If you have ideas for how your group or organization can partner with the market, please be in touch. Watch the calendar on our website, or news page, or our Facebook page for updates.
Please continue reading below. We are looking for musicians for the market and have set our date for the 2013 Emporia Farmers Market Annual Meeting. If you have ever thought about being a vendor at the market, tonight's class would be a good place to start.
See you at the market!

Musicians Wanted |
Market Music Coordinator, Bill Ihling is looking for musicians willing to share your musical talents with the shoppers and vendors down at our Saturday morning markets. Right now, we're in "winter mode", which means we're operating indoors at the Emporia Humanitarian Center on 1st and 3rd Saturdays. We're booked thru March, but could use some entertainment for April 6th & 20th. An hour or so would be great...10am until 11:15.
He'd also love to hear from anybody who'd like to play the market any Saturday this Spring and Summer (May 4 thru Sept. 28) Once we move outdoors, (the parking lot on Merchant St., between 7th and 8th Sts.) the Saturday market starts at 8am.
We can't pay much, but we do offer anyone who performs $10 worth of "market money" (good for fresh veggies, baked goods, craft items, etc). In addition to that, it's a low pressure gig and the audiences are always very appreciative. You're also welcome to put out a tip bucket and sell CD's, T-shirts, bumperstickers, etc.
If you'd like to know more, please contact Bill Ihling at beeeye@juno.com or call 620-699-3352. If you've played the market before, please check your calendars, pick a date that'll work for you, and get in touch! |
January 29 TONIGHT! Farmers Market 101: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Selling at the Farmers Market |
Have you considered becoming a part of our growing market? The Emporia Farmers Market accepts new vendors year round and is looking forward to planning our 2013 season.
Market manager, Tracy Simmons, will cover the ins and outs of selling at a farmers market on January 29, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. This class, offered through the FHTC Community Connections course catalog, will provide information on state and local regulations for selling at market, creating a niche as a market vendor and tips and strategies for successful vending. As well, you will learn a bit about Emporia Farmers Market history, operations and guidelines for selling. Open to anyone interested in vending at a farmers market; only the later portion of the class will deal with Emporia Farmers Market specifics.
If you think you might like to sell at the farmers market, sign up for this presentation. It will be good for those who already know their product, as well as those just imagining the possibilities. The class is sponsored in part by the Emil Babinger Charitable Trust. Participants will have the option of applying the cost of attendance ($5) to the 2013 market EFM vendor fee.

Commitment for a board position includes monthly meetings (approximately 1 to 1.5 hours) and occasional help with fundraisers and other market educational activities and social events. If you are interested in a position on the 2013-14 market board, please contact Tracy Simmons or a current market board member.
Please take a moment to thank our current Directors:
