Welcome back from summer vacation!

I hope you had a wonderful summer and that you will find ways to extend the joys of summer into the cooler fall months. Welcome to the newest edition of my newsletter. To keep my newsletter fresh and engaging, I have decided to write it bi-monthly (every other month) rather than every month.  If you cannot stand being out of touch with the happenings at Tassels Home Design for that long, I encourage you to "like" my business on Facebook, where I also post updates.

Before & After
A kids' bedroom that also appeals to adults

My client has an extended family with a large number of kids (and is hoping to have grandchildren soon). To house the little guests who frequently come to visit, I was asked to transform this bedroom into one that would be equally comfortable for children and adults.

AFTER:

I had so much fun working with my client on the transformation of this bedroom. My client wanted to achieve (and we hopefully did achieve) a nice balance between being fun and bright enough for kids to enjoy, yet being grown-up enough for the occasional overnight stay by adults.

I focused on animal-themed fabrics and wallpaper (but not specifically kids' themed) that would appeal to the young and not-so-young. We also avoided pinks and blues and instead chose a more adult color palate of reds, greens, and yellows.

I love the interplay of the various fabrics and patterns and how they all tie together, including the custom-upholstered chair, custom duvet covers, pillows, and valances. The pattern of the wallpaper is repeated on the fabric of the duvet covers.  The chair is a custom-upholstered chair from Duralee and the bunk bed (with trundle underneath) and dresser come from Restoration Hardware.

I think we struck a nice balance of cuteness, but not overly cute, and my client loves her new guest room for little and not-so-little visitors.

Why do light switches always have to be white?

The answer is: they don't!  It is often the little details, such as light switches and outlets that complement the color of the walls, that provide the finishing touches to a home. Lutron offers wall plates, dimmers, and controls in variety of colors to coordinate perfectly with your room (ranging from muted beige to hot red) and variety of finishes, including stainless steel, bright chrome, and clear glass.

With so many color choices available, why limit yourself to white only?  Work with your designer to pick the perfect color and finish for your switch covers.  After all, the days of Henry Ford's "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black" are well behind us.
