A small change with big impact
Sometimes all it takes is a small change to turn a piece of furniture into a stunning, one of a kind treasure. The makeover below highlights this very well: we updated a client's built-ins by simply adding some wallpaper.
The wooden paneling in the back of the open shelves made the built-ins look dated, and didn't blend with the style of the rest of the home. Solution? I hired my wallpaper crew to transform the unit. First, they filled in the gaps between the wood paneling (to create a smooth surface). That done, they carefully applied wallpaper over the wood paneling. Voila!

AFTER:
The Kravet Couture wallpaper we selected is beautiful and quite special. It features translucent leaves applied onto paper. This creates a beautiful texture and added depth and layers to the cabinet. Also, the lighter color of the wallpaper (compared to the dark wood paneling) brightens up the room. The cabinet lighting beautifully shows off the new backdrop.
My client is thrilled with her "new" built-ins!

One-of-a-kind decorative glass for your home
I recently attended the annual "The Look" event at the Boston Design Center. This event is an open house for showrooms to highlight their latest products and offerings and to introduce designers to local artists who create high-end one-of-a-kind products for the home. I was so blown away by one of the artist and her product line that I wanted to introduce her and her work to you:
Connie Kolman is the designer and artist of Kolman Artisan Glass, based in Sudbury, MA. The company specializes in handcrafted decorative glass panels. These are the most stunning glass panels I have ever seen. Here are three samples of her designs:
As soon as I saw these colorful glass panels, I started dreaming about using them for a backsplash in a kitchen or bathroom, a decorative accent on a shower wall,
an accent wall, a table top... A small focal element using these handcrafted decorative glass panels will go a long way.
