New Ohio Law Eases Liability for Motor Carriers

Ohio recently enacted a law that prohibits certain types of indemnity agreements in motor carrier transportation contracts. State law now prohibits provisions that purport to require the carrier to indemnify, defend or hold harmless the shipper from liability or loss resulting from the negligent or intentional acts or omissions of the shipper. Murphy Inducted as Fellow With State Bar Foundation 
In recognition of his community service activities, KEVIN P. MURPHY was inducted recently as a fellow with the Ohio State Bar Foundation. Murphy is one of 46 civic-minded Ohio lawyers who comprise this year's class of fellows of the foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Ohio State Bar Association. The fellowship involves a year of service to outreach programs across Ohio that help the public better understand the law. Read more here.

Bayer to Lead Seminar on Contracts, Copyright
DENISE GLINATSIS BAYER will present a seminar on copyright law and contracts for artists at The Shop on Liberty Street in Hubbard on Friday, Aug. 19, as part of the "Makers Mean Business" learning series for creative entrepreneurs. Bayer is a business lawyer and president of The Legal Creative, a business and legal advisory service for artists. Meanwhile, Bayer also recently joined the board of directors for the Mahoning Valley College Access Program and has been appointed to the executive committee of Opera Western Reserve board of trustees.

HHM Lawyers Chip in With Streetscape 2016
A group of HHM lawyers and spouses participated in the recent Streetscape 2016 beautification event in Youngstown. Pictured are (from left) Janice Coombs, JOHN DELLICK, NEIL SCHOR, Harriet Schor and FRITZ COOMBS. They were among more than 700 volunteers who helped apply mulch, remove weeds, plant flowers and otherwise beautify the city.

Magician Society Recognizes Coombs
FREDERICK S. (FRITZ) COOMBS III, who has followed a life-long avocation for performing sleight of hand and magic tricks, was inducted to the Order of Merlin - Excalibur by the International Brotherhood of Magicians at its recent convention in San Antonio. The award recognized the magician's 50 continuous years of membership and service to the organization.
