VANSUCH SUPPORTS DEFENSE OF LANDLORD RULES IN BOARDMAN
Boardman Township is enforcing parts of a new landlord registration program after prevailing in court in a defense spearheaded by MATTHEW G. VANSUCH, the township's home-rule counsel. Although the ruling in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court is under appeal, it at least for now validates a home-rule resolution Boardman adopted last year and confirms the township's standards for rental properties. WENGER LEADS OIL & GAS SEMINAR
FOR LOCAL ACCOUNTING SOCIETY
ALAN D. WENGER was the presenter yesterday for a Mahoning Valley Accounting Society continuing education seminar on local oil & gas activity. The session covered legal, tax and business implications of exploration in the Utica Shale. Wenger chairs HHM's oil & gas law group and speaks frequently on energy and land use issues. He will address the topic next month at First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Wenger can be reached here.

BAYER TO LEAD SEMINAR ON
LICENSING, COPYRIGHT LAW
DENISE GLINATSIS BAYER will lead an Ohio State Bar Association online continuing education seminar Nov. 9 on copyright and trademark law. Bayer is president of The Legal Creative, an advisory service for artists, and speaks frequently on intellectual property matters. Information on the event will be added soon to the OSBA calendar. Bayer will cover a similar topic at an Oct. 7 Arts Means Business seminar for an audience of artists in Youngstown.

WILSON LANDS PRESIDENT'S AWARD

PATRICK K. WILSON received the 2015 Trumbull County Bar Association President's Award at the association's annual meeting last week. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments or achievements. Wilson is a former president and treasurer of the association. He is also president of the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation board and a former board chair for the John F. Kennedy Catholic Schools.

STATE BAR FOUNDATION HONORS
RIES FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
MATTHEW J. RIES has been selected to receive an Ohio State Bar Foundation Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under. The annual awards, presented in regions across the state, recognize younger lawyers for substantial contributions of pro bono time and effort to community organizations. Ries is president of the Warren City Schools Foundation and the Warren Civic Music Endowment Fund. He is also a director and committee chair for Trumbull 100, co-chair of the Trumbull County Bar Association's young lawyers committee, a Warren YWCA advisory committee member and a high school mock trial coach.
