NEW UNION ELECTION RULES 
WILL CHALLENGE EMPLOYERS

The National Labor Relations Board ruled recently that employees can use their work emails for organizing campaigns. The NLRB also announced several revisions to its union election rules, including provisions that leave employers less time to react to potential union elections. In light of these developments, employers need to be more proactive with their employees and to plan ahead. Read the full blog post here.
FAILURE TO SAVE EVIDENCE 
CAN BRING HARSH RESULTS

One of the fastest developing and most troubling areas of litigation is "spoliation," the failure to preserve necessary evidence. While state laws on the topic vary, they all generally require that, once litigation is anticipated, evidence that is reasonably relevant to the matter must be preserved and unaltered. Depending on the nature and location of the action, the failure to properly preserve evidence can result in unexpected and severe penalties. Read the full blog post here.
TAKE CAUTION WHEN LAND IS 
SEVERED FROM MINERAL RIGHTS

Landowners these days are increasingly involved in transactions with severed mineral rights. A seller may wish to transfer ownership to a piece of land but retain the rights to future oil and gas development on that land. Sloppy language in transaction documents can result in frustrating consequences for all concerned. Read the full blog post here.

CHAMBER PICKS HHM, ABRUZZINO
FOR AIR BASE SUPPORT EFFORT  

 

The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber has retained VITO ABRUZZINO for counsel and service related to its campaign to support the continued operation of the Youngstown Air Reserve Base and other military operations in northeastern Ohio. Abruzzino has been named to lead the Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission, established by the chamber to spearhead the campaign. Abruzzino has been with HHM since 2013 and is a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, where he holds the rank of Major. Read more here.
COOMBS, PANEL TO DISCUSS 
STUDENT LOAN DEBT CRISIS

 

FREDERICK S. COOMBS III is part of a panel of Ohio lawyers and judges that will meet in Cleveland Tuesday, July 21 to discuss the student loan crisis. Sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, the gathering at the Stokes Federal Courthouse Building will explore current and potential new solutions to the enormous debt owed on loans for higher education. BAYER, LEGAL CREATIVE BOOST
ARTS WITH FREE LEGAL CLINICS 

 

The Legal Creative, the artist advisory service led by DENISE GLINATSIS BAYER, has scheduled free legal advice clinics in July and October for playwrights, performers and other artists. The first clinic is set for noon to 4 p.m. Friday, July 24, at the main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Read more here.
