Hi

What a fun and exciting time of year! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, good food, and wonderful memories.

The children have so much to look forward to at TLC. Each center has their own plans to celebrate this time of year including holiday parties. Please be sure to read the information at the parent tables regarding these events and volunteer opportunities.

There are many sign-up days planned, so please review the calendar in this E-news as well as the important dates article below. This information will help you keep track of the dates email invitations are sent out for the sign-up days as well as the last date to register (closing dates).

Please send your children to TLC prepared for cold, chilly and perhaps snowy weather. It might be warmer during the day, but by the time the children come to afternoon TLC, it can be quite cold outside. They need to bring hats, coats, mittens, scarves and boots when there is snow on the ground.

If you have any questions please call us at 203-452-9626 or email TLC: [email protected] or [email protected].

Have a wonderful holiday!!

E-NEWS FROM TASHUA

'Tis the season for joy and laughter, with this in mind our Tashua team have planned some festive and joyful events for December. Please take a few minutes to view our parent table for dates, times and events, as for now mum is the word.

November flashback, we kept it low key and focused on Thanksgiving and the gobbling turkeys. Each child was asked to reminisce and think about his or her bliss. This was the focus of our displays. Michael C. was thankful for our troops while others were grateful for a bowl of soup. Olivia and Maddie were thankful for each other while Keira was thankful for her brother. Their words will touch your hearts, so please take a moment to read all of the things that the children were thankful for.

We also focused our attention on a healthy food by making "food plates". As the children searched through flyers, I heard voices call out "this is a healthy food" and "this is not". Cutting and gluing are hand and eye coordination skills and for our little ones it was a little bit of a drill. Our art work was complete when our plates had options from all the healthy food groups.

Pumpkin pie painting was also a learning experiment as we mixed colors into various pumpkin pie shades. The children then twirled and twisted cotton into a topping that gave their creation a unique look.

We ended November with giggles and laughs and oh what a mess as our pie eating contest was quite the experience. Kindergarten through fifth graders all wanted in on the fun for this activity which came in as number one. Soon you can view photos of our day for as I will put them on display.

I will end my rhyme here with a holiday cheer, Happy Holidays to all, and to all a warm and healthy new year!

TLC EARLY DISMISSAL POLICIES

TLC Early Dismissal Policy

It is extremely important that you fill out and return the TLC Early Dismissal Form so we know the plan for your child/children if we should close due to inclement weather or any other emergency. Please make sure this plan coincides exactly with the plan you have in place with your child's school. The TLC Early Dismissal Form is available by clicking on the link above or at our website under " Forms."

Weather Emergency Information
This information can be found on these websites, TV and radio stations:

  • Radio - WICC (AM 60), STAR (FM 99.9) or WEBE (FM 108)
  • Television -  WTNH/WCTX 59 Channel 8, WFSB Hartford Channel 3 or WVIT/NBC 30 Channel 30
  • E-Mail Notification - Register for this service by logging onto www.ctweather.com
School Closed
When the Superintendent of Schools closes school for snow or for any reason, TLC will also be closed.  Please choose one of the above public services to obtain information on TLC and school closings.  The safety of our children and staff is our paramount concern.  TLC may not open on Sign-Up Days in the event of bad weather; again please listen to WICC radio or WTIC Channel 30 TV for closing information.  Generally, if local schools, such as Shelton or Monroe, are closed, Trumbull may also be closed.

Delayed Opening

When school opening is delayed, TLC centers will also be delayed with the exception to the part-time morning Preschool that would be cancelled.  Please choose one of the above public services to obtain information regarding delayed openings.  If school is delayed 90 minutes, TLC will open 90 minutes later, 8:30 am instead of 7:00 am.  (Only children who are normally BEFORE SCHOOL enrollees can be dropped off at TLC at 8:30 am.  All other children must wait until school opens at 10:05 am before being dropped off.)  The school will be locked until this time, and no access is possible to the TLC room. Children must never be left in the TLC room without a TLC staff member present. Drop-ins are not allowed on delayed openings.

Unplanned Early Dismissal

If the Superintendent decides to close school early due to causes such as inclement weather conditions, TLC Centers and the Preschool will also close.  An Unplanned Early Dismissal is a non-scheduled event and should not be confused with a Planned Early Dismissal.

When school dismisses early, children who regularly attend TLC Centers will be directed to go to TLC Centers as usual, but need to be picked up within two hours of school closing. Children assigned to the Fun Zone will bused to the TLC Fun Zone Center or must be picked up from their home school location at the time of dismissal. In the event of any early dismissal, the part-time afternoon Preschool will be cancelled.

Parents who may not work locally and/or believe they will have difficulty picking up their child within this two-hour period should identify a designated local person to pick up their child. This person should be listed in our TLC files as the authorized designee. In some instances, the school administration may not close school early, but worsening weather conditions may force the TLC administration to close TLC Centers and the Preschool before the regular 6:00 PM time. Sometimes the weather where you work may not seem to warrant TLC closing early, but please understand that we do not make this decision lightly. Our primary concern is for the safety of our children, staff and parents. All children must be picked up no later than two hours after TLC's decision to close. Ratios will be maintained at all times, and two staff will remain until all children are picked up. Drop-ins are not allowed on unplanned early dismissal days.

***In all circumstances, a parent or designated alternate will be responsible for being aware of school and/or TLC time changes and are expected to pick up your child in the appropriate period. If a parent is unable to pick up their child themselves, please make arrangements to have an alternate contact do so.

Please refer to your Parent Handbook  for additional information. If you have any questions please contact the TLC Office at 203-452-9626.
