Cultural Tourism Research
According to a 2012 study by Mandala Research LLC, cultural and heritage experiences are major factors in attracting visitors to Oregon. The report, commissioned by the Oregon Heritage Commission in partnership with Travel Oregon, was funded by the cultural partners of the Oregon Cultural Trust, including the Arts Commission.

Oregon's cultural visitors spend $1,618 per visit, the findings show; nearly 60% more per person than cultural travelers spend nationally. A cultural/heritage traveler is "a person who travels to experience the places, people, activities and things that authentically represent the past and present, including cultural, historic and natural resources." Visitors are drawn not only to the arts venues of Portland, Eugene and Ashland but to unique experiences like Timberline Lodge, the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and the Pendleton Round-Up. The reports suggests that it will be important for Oregon to protect its sense of place and cultural traditions to keep attracting visitors.  Read more.
