UP News & Highlights
National Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards 2013
Earlier this year the HHS Office of Minority Health updated the CLAS standards following 10 years of successful implantation. The modifications were needed to changing health and health disparities, changing demographics and legal changes.
The revised CLAS Standards expand definitions of Culture, Audience, Health, and Recipients.

The CMS Health Disparities PULSE Resource Center is a new website geared toward reducing and eliminating health disparities for vulnerable minority populations. PULSE is an acronym for Portal to Understanding, Learning, Sharing and Educating, and the website will be a public resource dedicated to promoting health equity through an abundance of resources and interventions

Tools/Resources of the Month
Here are two sites that provide multiple languages of health information/teaching sheets.
- Health Information Translations (Collaborative of four health systems in Ohio)
- FREE patient education in numerous languages
- Topics include health conditions, food and diet, home care items (e.g., foley
care, incision care...), and even common therapy exercises (also see health conditions for after care of orthopedic surgeries
