The Book of Psalms
Through the Psalms
Old Testament
Blessed Are Those Who Walk With the Lord, They Will Shout for Joy - (Psalm 89:15-18)

Daily Praise
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound they walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all day long, and in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, and in Your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the Lord, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Reading Notes
The psalmist is now recounting the joy God's people have because of their relationship with Him. Even through trials, there is a love along with an inner joy and peace knowing we are children of God. Secure in our Savior Christ Jesus. Here the phrase, "the joyful sound" refers to a cheer or shout of joyful homage to God. The psalmist is painting the picture of the people worshiping God and the sound of that worship is becoming stronger and stronger until it eventually leads to a shout of praise for God. We know from history because of God's righteousness the nation was exalted as they followed the Lord.

Moreover the expression, "in the light of Your countenance" refers to the way God the Holy Spirit lights the paths of those who have a relationship with God and follow Him. This also refers to a change in character, a change in lifestyle as we walk with the Lord and no longer walk in the ways of this dark world. As indicated in these passages God has also given Israel a special place within the world and He is faithful to keep His covenant with Israel. A covenant that was based on God's faithfulness and not on the people's willingness to obey. The metaphor used here of the shield is in reference to Israel's king, who ultimately will be Jesus Christ during His millennial reign.
