Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises We Will Receive Blessings When We Give Our Hearts to Him - (Isaiah 58:7-8)

Bible Promise
If you help the poor, your light will shine like the dawn.

Bible Verse
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.

Reading Notes
God is after the hearts of His people not their piety. God is after those with a heart in love with Him and not after religious rituals and acts that make a person appear more righteous. That's the message from God, which Isaiah was delivering to God's people. In the passages above, God is describing the actions which naturally stem from a heart given over to the Lord. A heart in love with God is a heart in love with people, and a heart that breaks over those in need and the lost who do not know Christ. Moreover, as followers of Christ, we have to remember God's blessings on our life, were never meant for us to have more stuff. God blesses us in order that we can bless those around us. As followers of Jesus our time, talents and resources are meant as opportunities for us to bless those in need around us and further the Gospel of Christ.

And this is the thought which is also conveyed in these passages by Isaiah the prophet. These passages describe the charity, love and concern that naturally come from a life changed by Jesus and the joy of having a restored relationship with God through Christ. In other words, if we have truly given our lives to Jesus, and we have allowed the Holy Spirit to do a work in our hearts, then our life and our commitment to God should naturally be reflected in what we do, because of the love we have for Jesus. There should be fruits or evidences of love, charity and kindness in abundance within our lives. Our love for Jesus should be characterized by humility with an absence of religious pride. This is because of the Holy Spirit's work of sanctification in our lives, which teaches us to focus on Jesus and follow His example and not chase after the religious rituals of men.
