Bible Promises
New Testament
God Promises We Will Inherit His Blessings - (1st Peter 3:9)
Bible PromiseI have called you to inherit My blessing.
Bible Verse Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Reading Notes It has been said that, "All the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus!" This is because Jesus is the fulfillment of all God's promises. Jesus Himself told us the scriptures testify of Him, because they show us our redemption is through Him alone, by faith alone. And that is the grace of God, through which we have been given undeserved blessings, salvation and eternal life. Therefore, if God did this for us while we were at enmity with Him, shouldn't we also show the same grace to those who are fellow heirs in the kingdom of God with us? And that's what these passages are speaking about. We as children of God should be merciful, supportive and a blessing to those around us, because of what Jesus did for us and because of our love for Him!
Because of the love Christ Jesus our Lord showed for us, we have the grace of God and salvation through Jesus giving us eternity in His presence. Why then shouldn't we show the same grace and forgiveness to others? The answer is we should! Moreover, we are expected by Christ Himself to forgive others. It's Jesus who gives us not only salvation, but the ability to truly forgive others. We can do this because of the work of the Holy Spirit on our hearts and minds. In addition, we will also receive more now through the Holy Spirit's work in us, because Jesus calls us to Himself for service. Then much more in abundance later, when we go home to be with Christ. Therefore, as followers of Jesus and children of God, we are called to extend the same undeserved forgiveness to others who have wronged us. And when we do so, we shall receive more blessings from God because of the freedom we received in Christ Jesus our Lord.
