Daily Praise
For I have said, "Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens. I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: 'Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.'" Selah

Reading Notes
When God chose David to rule over His people Israel, He made a very special covenant with David. God promised to establish David's throne forever over Israel. Moreover, the uniqueness of the covenant, lay in the type of covenant God made with David. The type of the covenant God made with David did not depend on David's actions to fulfill the covenant, it was completely one-sided. God promised that despite David's actions God would eternally establish David's rule over Israel. God made this promise for all times, and He made it through David and his descendants into the millennial kingdom with the Messiah's reign. This is why God's word has given us so much detail and promises regarding the Messiah who is Christ Jesus our Lord.

God promised the Messiah would not only be God Himself, but also a descendant of David. A promise and a prophecy which has only been fulfilled by one person in all of history! That person is Jesus Christ our Lord, who is both God in the flesh and a descendant of David through Mary. Now what the psalmist is doing here is very important for us as Christians. The psalmist during a time of tribulation and uncertainty is grabbing hold of God's promises. Proclaiming God's faithfulness and planting himself firmly on God's truth, which is the written word of God, the Bible. Thereby strengthening his faith during times of trial. This is something we ourselves should do on a regular basis, as preparation for the trials we know will enter our lives. What this requires from us, is to study and read God's word and that we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
