Reading Notes
Paul wrote this letter to a fledgling church who even though they were maturing in their faith they still had some issues and questions regarding prophecy and the return of Jesus. In addition, the people were suffering from bad doctrine of false teachers, who had crept into the church. This, along with increased persecution because of their faith, was causing believers to lose faith in God. Paul in his letter was instructing the church regarding correct Christian doctrine, reversing the effects the false teachers were having on the congregation. In addition, the Apostle Paul was encouraging the church to stay committed to God and the Gospel of Christ, reminding them that God is always with them and that He is always working through them and in their lives.

In this section of scripture Paul is praying for the church and encouraging them. Here when he says to stay faithful, Paul is reminding them that God is always faithful. God is faithful in creation, in His promises, in salvation, in seeing us through temptation and suffering. In addition God is faithful to strengthen and protect us from Satan by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who is at work in our hearts, minds and bodies. The Holy Spirit indwells all followers of Jesus and He works in us, changing our lives. Therefore, we are to place our trust in Jesus alone. He will not only protect us from the evil one, but He has promised, He will not lose any of those the father has placed into His hands.
